Well, I haven't been able to find my rhomboid just yet but I did find this beauty.

That's a male for sure. Most likely terminal and on his way to being super.

I just got one from PIA last week. Awesome fish! Congrats.

Nice Cirrhilabrus laboutei. Most definately a male. The body coloring is a lot brighter (even with a camera phone, can't imagine what it looks like in real life)than a female.

Is there a way to tell if they're male or female?

Sub (transitional) male you have there.

Terminal and super are the same thing...

You can distinguish a male from a female in this species by the crisp (and bright) yellow line present which separates the purple from the white on the sides.

Terminal males are distinguishable in this species by the presence of elongated anal spikes at the anterior of the anal fin:

So this morning I get up and check on him and I noticed on my heater controller that the temp said 79. The QT tank is in the garage and it was in the mid 40's last night. There is no way that the tank got up to 79. So I have a Hanna thermometer and it tells me the water is 65. I ditched my heater controller and put in a trusty eheim. I hope he'll pull through.

Thanks for the info

Absolutely beautiful!! I would love to have one of those. Are they reef safe and how much are they typically? Thanks

Thanks for the info. Good to know. Have to put that guy on the top of my wish list for when I get my tax return. $170 is a lot of "clams" :)
Good luck with him!!!

I come home today and he's still alive and eating. I hope thisbis a good sign
