My new wrasse

Thanks for the nice words about my new specimen. As of today, he's been doing really well, eating and swimming everywhere. I have another small wrasse right now in the QT with him and they seem to be best buds. They just finished their first week of prazipro and made it through with flying colors. He does do something rather odd, he likes to swim in the output of the filter in a vertical motion, but when eating and other times swimming he's been swimming normal. This is why I was inquiring about swim bladder issues. Only time will tell I guess.

Hopefully its not. I hate swim bladder they don't die right away they just swim helplessly for weeks. i lost 5 lineatus and 5 rhomboid after few weeks of eating and swimming well:( now my lone lineatus after a year suddenly became a terror beating up my 2 Scott's fairy Fiji and maybe a vanuatu or cooks island variety:(

Good luck mike

Just to confirm, the labouti is a deep water fish?
Deep enough to qualify, yes. But this typically shows up within 4 weeks of collection.

And if that's what he's doing, I wouldn't worry. Sounds like normal behavior to me; Cirrhilabrus do appreciate some flow.

Thanks everyone for their help

Evolved, by chance, is there a website that shows the difference between male/female for the different wrasses?

Not in any one place that I can think of.

The images on Fishbase for any given species can generally give you an idea.

And I'm always open for questions and/or photos IDs. :)

Awesome. Thanks for sharing your great wealth of information.

Make sure your lid is super tight, they will jump, just a matter of time... Mine Has jumped twice, while I was feeding, had to rescue him quickly...

Beautiful fish. I just got one from DD. $200 and worth every penny. Here is a photo (seen with xmas wrasse)- was tough to get him to swim still so a bit blurry.

I am thinking of adding a Lineatus as well which I hear is equally amazing looking, but even more $ :fun5:

Caved and found the lineatus xlarge male on live aquaria "on sale" from $350 for $239.

Because my wrasse is in QT right and eating pellets (thankfully), would you only feed pellets or would still try and feed a variety?

Very nice Darth (wouldn't it be nice if they "stood" still for a second for the camera?!). Can't wait to get my Lineatus on Tuesday. I think it will be stunning with the combo of him with the Labouti, X-mas, and Exquisite wrasses. Will plan on adding an Austrailian Harlequin down the road a bit. Will post pics soon.

Solitude I feed a variety of frozen, pellets, and algae for the blond naso, mimic tang, and magnificent foxface - however the Labouti happily eats that too. He pretty much eats anything since the day I got him.

Wrasses eat anything, and are voracious eaters. Good luck with the Lineatus. I had to go through a few specimens before I got one to live. They haven't been shipping well in the last year or 2. You will want this fish in qt for sure. Make sure he is eating like crazy.

What has been thye problem with them shipping recently?

How do you recommend acclimating? LA suggests 15 min in the tank in the bag, and then adding the contents in a separate bucket and drip acclimating for an hour; then dumping out 1/2 of the water and continue drip acclimating for another hour. I have read in another thread that the fish should not sit in that water it was shipped in for that long. I did follow these instructions with the Labouti Wrasse and he is doing great. Thoughts on how to best acclimate hm when he arrives?
