My newest project...

I always thought mine turned out looking OK.

The new style stop is what I am interested at working on.

Covey

Yes it is....it works pretty good actually.

The kits are more expensive but I like the factor that it takes way less time because the fabrication that requires tools i dont have is already done for you.

The new stops are nice....I couldn't find clear instructions on making them so I went with the Pin method.

These things really move some serious water and in a nice wide path too.

I was wondering if there is anybody that would be willing to do this mod for a few people, they give you the Mj's and you tell them how much for supplies and that's that, i know I have a mj1200 that i'd like to do this too...

If we made them from scratch it's probably gonna cost less than $10 (plus the MJ) and it will make a decent demonstration and a good get-together. If we are just thinking of buying the kits I don't think a demonstration would even be needed.

Just my $.02 though

I'm interested in doing this to 2 or 3 of my 1200's as well. I'd be interested in coming to a meeting to learn how to do it (I need to officially join the group anyway).

What is the website for the kit?

I'm wondering the same thing as acidlittle - I give you the pump, you do the mod, and I pay for supplies and your effort. If anybody is interested, please let me know!
Thanks!
Anna :)

Just got an email back from reef chili about any discounts if bought a quanity. He told me that he would knock off 10% for 10-12 kits. Yeah I know that you could get them cheaper if you had all the stuff, but I have never done it before and have no clue. I have work-space for about 6 people in my shop. Let me know.

I know that Billy in the QC's was working on these mods. He had some other type of magnets in mind for holding these mods.

We do need to organize a meeting so a bunch of us can make some of these!

And I still need to finish up those mounts, spending the last 11 weeks out of town has me severely behind on some of my projects.

I am using the aquaclear pump to mix my saltwater, that thing is a monster. I have about another ten minutes of work on the second one of those before it is ready for the mount, still need to get it in the drill press and cut the slots on the shroud the rest of the way out.

Yeah when and where is the next meeting, if we do this at it I may be able to score some time off work! Would love to learn how to do it, but seeing as i'm not a paying member of the club would feel bad going and stealing info and others' time. If anybody is willing to make the mod, I'm sure I could figure out how to mount it.

What kind of mount do you have planned??

I did the mag float because it was quick and easy....I really want to put mine in the back corner of the tank and have it angle to the center of the front pain of the tank...just don't know how to get a mount to do it.

As for the kit or build from scratch...either way is good for me, I just prefer the kit for the time factor, but its no doubt that building from scratch is gonna save $$.
I just think it would be fun to get a group together, and collectively I bet we could come up with some good ideas for both builds and mounts...

Covey, can you organize getting all the parts together through tower? You might want to check with enstien about precisely what parts were included in the kits. I figure I have enough tooling to make the covers from PVC. Probably try to make them up a few days before everyone shows up. Then again, I justr have my shop in a 11X22 area so space is a bit tight for a large group, but have good table area to lay the things up without worrying that I am going to ruin the kitchen table.
Sept. 9-10 would be ideal so we can get all our ducks in a row.

Look at the link Covey posted. I had magnets ordered and they backordered them. My order was cancelled for some reason and since I have been out of town I haven't gotten around to reordering.. I am using 1/4 acrylic with a 1/8 acrylic wrapper on each side of it to hold the magnets. I will post pics as soon as I can get one finished up.

Will there be a pivot of some kind?
I need to angle mine in the corner.

einsteins

That wouldnt be hard to incorporate into it.

The only thing that worries me about his mod is that a smaller fish might find thier way into the prop chamber when a wavemaker has the powerhead turned off.

How likely is this?

-JB

You could effectively add a fine sreen to the opening at the end without much if any harm to the flow....

einsteins

A wave maker with the orignal pin stop isn't a great ideal unless you like replacing the prop frequentily. The props are around a $1.50 so that not breaking the bank and some do just replace the prop once a month.

If you feel like digging thru the huge main thread they had come up with a new idea for a stopper. It is a plastic collar on the prop/mag assembily with a notch in it. The pin is added at the base of the magnet and only hits the stop not the prop.

I hadn't built one of those yet and wanted to try it at the mod party.
