My now BRAND NEW 120g Build!

Just picked up the rest of the wood to finish the stand today, hope to get some good progress tomorrow. Also ordered the galaxy 250w dual ballast and lumenarc mini's, decided not to go with the optional ac kit as i couldnt find any info/reviews on how well it actually works.

Stand all sheeted in 1/2" Baltic Birch for the sides, and 3/4 up top.
Custom made doors or on order, and this weekend can finish sanding and do all the trim work!

Great build thread and planning bwixby!

I'm new to this too and have been doing a lot of planning before I start spending in next few weeks so I'll be tagging along with your thread so I can pick up some ideas.

Lighting has been confusing the crap outta me too :eek1: I think I may just end up going with a fixture and not building a canopy. But I'm not sure yet.

Here a couple updated pics with trim work started, got some more sanding to do on it and cleaning it up. And need to finish coating the inside with Kilz. Still waiting for custom made doors to come in. I went with a pretty simplistic design with trim, as most of my furniture is all modern, and I am by no means a master craftsmen when it comes to wood work.

Sorry about bad photos didnt have my camera with me so cellphone it was!

So all my lighting is in, so i was going to start building canopy, but I started thinking and now have a question. I am going to run the galaxy dual ballast. Was going to run it with lumenarc minis, but debating if i should return those and get more of a pendant type fixture that has a uv shield/glass to protect the bulb and reflector. I plan to have the light about 12in off the water. With the light 12in off the water will i be okay with no uv shield to prevent any splashing or salt creep? or am i better off going with one of their pendants? Any help is appreciated!!!

Well finally got a bunch of stuff in and got some time to do some work on the canopy. The front 9in of it flip all the way up and set back on the rest of the canopy. Hopefully next weekend can get to the sheeting and trimming of canopy and it will be ready to go to the paint shop to be sprayed.

Still got a little of tweaking to do on it.

And thanks to everyone who recommended galaxy with radiums, it looks amazing even without water in the tank.

Its getting there thanks for the positive replys...I am going to have to con one of you plumbing experts over with some beer or something when i get ready to plumb it to make sure i get it all right!

Looks good man!!I cant wait to get my 120!!You should run the seathing a little long on the canopy to make a lip so the canopy cant slide anywhere. If you didnt already plan on doing that.

Also i got some frags i can hook you up with cheap, free or trade when you get that thing goin since you live so close. If you need any help just let me know.I'm a carpenter with tools and i will work for beer!lol

Thanks man! The sheeting will hang down about 3/4 in around both sides and front...i am going to put a couple small pieces in back too..i think i am going to shorten the width just slightly as right now it over hangs about 5/8 on each side and i think it will look a lot better with maybe only about 1/4 in on each side to allow for the shrinking and swelling of the wood.

What are you doing for door hinges? I have a tool that bores the holes for hidden hinges.I probably have some nice hinges kickin around my garage to

I actually have a buddy who works for home depot and getting their custom made doors for cost...just saves me headache...

Nice tank >if have some wood trim to cover the tank's black trim top will looks like my fav
