My ocellaris looks bad

Hi!

I have a small ocellaris that has it's mouth constantly opened.

It's lips are swollen and when it swims towards me, I can see that the back of it's throat is reddish and swollen...

It doesn't eat anymore for a week now. It was in very good shape due to a good nutrition so it does not look weak for now (still fat).

Does anyone knows what could it be and is there any hope that it will cure only by itself?

Thank you for any advice!

Julien

is this a new fish or have you added anything new to the tank that it may have nipped on (i.e. new frogspawn, euphylliid)?

It is a fish that I've had for about 6 months.

I recently (about two weeks ago) added a yellowtail blue damsel.

Could I have introduced some kind of infection?

Thanks!

first thing that comes to mind is lock jaw.

i think i have heard of this with lionfish, so im sure it is a real condition...

i dont know if this is the situation with your clown, but it could be?

yes you did introduce a disease. you should look into the use of a Quaranteen tank if you plan to purchase more fish. its best if you treat all new fish with meds that will kill internal parasites and at the same time keep a close eye on them for signs of other problems.

i have lost 3 clownfish because i would introduce a new clown that was sick, which would infect my original clown, then in a week both would be dead. right now i have two clowns, the male has internal parasites and the female has something too, just not sure what to call it... im in the process of ordering Prazipro to treat them for internal parasites.

yes, it's possible you introduced a pathogen. i will say that the lockjaw is a strange symptom just by itself (other than the rapid breathing that just started). i don't have experience with ocellaris, i just know that a local reefer had one that appeared to develop temporary lockjaw after introducing a new frogspawn to which it hadn't been exposed to before.

i wish i could be of more help.

Well thanks all for the inputs...

I will make some research on brook.

I had to euthanise the fish with vodka since it was laying on it's side and breathing very rapidly.

thats unfortunate. from now on think about using a quaranteen tank and having a selection of medications on hand so when they go into the display, they will be disease free and ready to live a long life.
