My octopus 800s sucks too much

how do you slow down the pump, as mine sucks so much water that it will empty the overflow that sits in the tank and this is turn drys out the first chamber of the skimmer causing the skimmer to start making hellashish noise.

my idea was to lower the overflow, which then makes the collection cup fill with wet skim (even with the cup as high as it will go in the second chamber) to the point of near overflow in like 5 minutes

its too powerful

the water is streaming in the overflow as fast as it can, but the pump sucks faster than the wate can pour in, and then LOUD pump with loss of good siphon = no skim

is their a trick to this or a mod?

I have no experience with the HOB octo, but it sounds like there may be an issue with the venturi. I would remove the pump, open it up and make sure this is clear.

The 800S' are known to in the beginning, be too powerful in the breakin period. This usually calms down after the break in period.

How long has it been running?

I would remove the collection cup all together and let it run without it for a few days. Then try adding it back in at the highest the cup will go.

I would not let the pump run dry. I would also check to see if something is obstructing the venturi like nebraska mentioned.
