My Peacock

Well still haven't got a name for him/her?

He is still digging in one spot and moving things around. Weird thing is I put a 7" peice of 1 1/4 inch PVC pipe in there.. as a pre-made tunnel... buried it and covered it with rocks.... well he pretty much ignores it and continues to dig in one corner of the tank. Sigh........ Don't know where he thinks he is digging to... LOL

Still haven't fed him yet. He has pretty much left the 2 medium hermits in his tank alone....

What should I feed him? I talked with supernip and he suggested ghost shrimp... and then train him to eat dead stuff.

Also if he is about 5-6" how old is he? He is a peacock... anyone have any ideas how long he will live under optimum conditions?

Thanks

Before you offer him live food, try the dead stuff! My mantis took to chunks of frozen meaty foods (silversides, krill, sea scallop, prawn) right away. I usually cut it into a 1/4" cube or less then soak it in selcon over night, put it on a bamboo skewer, hold it in the tank and then tap the tank. Roy comes zipping out and wrestles the food from the stick. I wouldn't soak the stuff in any sort of suppliment yet. Get your mantis used to pre-dead food first. I used to feed Roy every other day.. I have bumped it up to every day. He does refuse to eat the food if he isn't hungry. He will always take the food but will violently toss food out of his tunnel if he isn't interesting in eating.

Now Roy will come out whenever I tap the tank. ;)

Yeah try dead but it kinda depends on the mantis. I told you yours was pretty mellow. As for the digging, dont worry about it, hes a big guy and hes just customizing his tank. Post some pictures! Thats a gorgeous mantis and I'm hoping to get one half as nice as yours. HOpe hes active too. MIne is running like mad. Does he stare at you when you look at him?

well an update....

Norbert is doing well. I am feeding him frozen silver sides, of course thawed.... with chopsticks. He loves em. He eagerly grabs them when offered. So far so good!

He is still digging around and both hermits are walking furniture for him. He moves then out of the way when they get 2 close. He is pretty tame... but is very active and watches me whenever i am in the room.

I am getting a digital camera this weekend so I will try and take some pics!
