my percula breeding log!

hey Bill quick question when do the baby larvae start eating once they release from the egg(clowns)?? I have been adding rotifers to the water before the eggs actually hatch? or should I wait a few days after?

thats a good question!

Dennis IMO the rotifers are the hardest part of the hobby!
It seems they are sensitive to change....I use my tank water (1.025) to start the culture and I like to keep 2-3 cultures going at 1 time in case of a crash! I try to feed cultured phytoplankton 1-2 times a day (just a small tint of green) I leave all the gunk on the bottom for the resting rotifers to live in! I leave the lights on 10 hrs per day! not a have to but I like to keep the phyto fresh as I can In the rotifer tank! I also do 10% wc per week and add a small amount of Amquel plus to help with nitrates & ammonia!

Ok I moved the eggs to there holding tank, last night 10 out of 25 lived....Kinda funny only 25 hatched out of a couple hundred?

I left the lights off all night and put about 40 rotifers In there to eat!

This morning lights on and 10 out of about 25 were alive and swimming!

I know it is hard but I think if you had the two all alone in a tank with nothing else then as you watch them fertilize the eggs then you could in theory use a chicken baster to suck up the area around the eggs and reapply the liquid to other eggs.

So far every video I have seen does not show the male dropping much of his own but would be nice to make sure eggs get fertilized.

Looking great Joe, have you given any thoughts or already have established where you are going to go with all of your juveniles when they are ready for resale?
