My pipefish palling around

small alien

The fungus is among us.
They often do this during dawn/dusk. The bluestripe is definitely a male. Not sure about the multi-band.

Very interesting! Nice selection of fish you have there too.

Do you see much of the Priolepsis? Mine seems to come out for a bit of a promenade late most evenings.

Nice stuff, SA.

I'm guessing your toby is minding its manners in terms of nipping?

Thanks. I've seen the Priolepis goby 3 times in 3 years. Literally. My most cryptic fish by far. Te first time I saw it was about a year after introduction. I had basically forgotten about it and couldn't figure out what it was at first. Even when I do see it, it's only a wee glimpse hanging upside down in a cave.

Thanks, namxas.

No nipping as far as I can tell. The multiband did have a nick in its tail one time but I figured a porcelain crab was responsible. The Toby is very mellow and minds its own business. I feed quite a lot so that may help. I love the fish.

I'm now realizing you probably mean nipping corals. I've got a number of possible suspects for any nipping so can't really say. I don't see much damage. Maybe some Xenia gets eaten but could be just unhappy in a given flow spot. Cheers.

Small alien - Did you quarantine the pipefish before putting them in the display? I have a lot of pods and baby peppermint shrimp in my tank which I think would keep a pipe until he's weaned onto Roe and cyclops. I'm afraid that if I QT a banded pipefish he'll starve before taking the prepared foods. On the other hand, I don't want to introduce any pathogens into my display since everyone in the tank has been happy and healthy for over two years. Your guidance would be appreciated. ;)

Were they introduced together or 1 was added after the other? I believe the bluestripe is sizing up the other pipefish.

I must say that your tank is one that most interests me out of most of the tanks I have seen in person, in pictures, or in video. The way you have stocked your tank is so unique, makes me miss having a tank to set up as a display.

Qtd both but in a very well established qt with live rock and live sand. I figure I've got a week or so to get them eating. If they don't, I may risk it and introduce to the dt. I'm not a religious qt user but generally I do. I've had probably 8 pipefish including banded, multiband, bluestripe and dragonface. I think I've qtd all but one and, as luck would have it, that one brought in some ich. That was a long time ago in a different tank. It's a balancing act for sure. If you could let a qt establish a pod population with some spare live rock, I'd go that way. The one reason I wouldn't is that I feel quite sure fish like pipes can learn to feed from seeing other fish eating. So, if I had a pipe that wasn't eating in qt and i had one that WAS in the dt, I might introduce earlier than I otherwise would. I've done this witha rescued OSFF.

How's that for a wishy washy answer?:uhoh3:

The multi was introduced second about 6-8 months ago. I can see why you'd say that but I don't think so. Their interactions are very cordial. Cheers.

Thanks, Kyle. I really appreciate that. Especially because I have a lot of respect for your posts and thoughts on the matter. Cheers.
