I have to wait till my babies are big enough to give to my LFS. That will be in another month so Ive been letting my batches go until i can kick my 23 day olds out.

I'm not sure about your LFS but most won't take them until they reach around 1" and that will usually take 4-6 months depending on the breed of clown. mine are 6 month olds before heading to the LFS.

Yea He told me today he would take them as soon as they are eating regular food! They are 23 days old and I have placed crushed flakes and a lil bit of frozen food in there just to see if they would nip at it and they do!! I will wait at least 2 months probably and if they are eating regularly then I'll probably drop them off and off they go to new homes!

Hey whats your breeding setups like? Do you have multiple tanks?

Beautiful plats.
My lfs was only going to pay me $1.50 to $2.00 for my baby clownfish. So I ended up putting them up for sale on my local forum and they are 8 months old.

wow thats a rip off lol, mine pays $6.00 ea. for my standard ocy's at 7 months old.

my setup consists of 3 fry tanks and 4 growout tanks. 2 bbs hatcheries, and 1 10 gal rotifer tank.

Do care to post a pic! I would love to see it. Right now im in a apartment but getting married in 2 months and the eventually getting a house and would love to have breeding area.

Do you change your rotifer water every single day?

congrats on getting married :D

I will post pics later when the lights come on, it's nothing really to see at the moment as I just started back up again a few weeks ago after I found a few places to buy my clowns.

yes, I change about 2.5 gal of rotifer water every morning but I have skiped a day every now and then, when I don't need rotifers I just feed alot less but have found out without regular water changes rotifers can crash, and salt is more cheaper than ordering rotifers every time.

Thanks! I haven't messed with my rotifer bucket for like 5 days now but I don't know if its crashed or not. Looks like rotifers are in it and it doesn't smell bad.

Here are my 22 day old clowns!

IME crashed rotifers don't smell. an easy way to tell if they crashed or not is take a small clear glass and dip it into the tank and look in the glass for the rotifers, also if you haven't been changing water out and you still do have rotifers they will be old rotifers and it can take a couple weeks before they start producing again.

the clowns look great, hopefully they can handle moving them to a new system (your LFS) if you only wait 2 months. they are still fragile IME

Yea I'll just have to see how fast they grow and if their not ready by then I'll wait longer. I really want to get some more small fry tanks up and running but man I don't think I have enough time.

that can be your wife's new job :D

I try to setup everything as easy as possible, I have ATO's setup for each tank, temp controller, automatic feeders for the grow out tanks, ect. so when everything is all up and running it takes me or the wife 20 min a day to do everything. it may be overkill but time is money and stability is key.

Good ?

Good ?

Thats great more PLATS!!!! Hope you can keep all of them

I gotta question what have you been doing with your rotifers? My clowns dont eat them any more so im neglecting my rotifer bucket for the past 5 days. It has just been sitting there with a airstone in it. I dont have the time and money to get another breeding system going so I have to wait till my babies are big enough to give to my LFS. That will be in another month so Ive been letting my batches go until i can kick my 23 day olds out. Its kind of a bummer and i hate to keep wasting salt water and keeping up with the maintenance in the rotifer bucket so I was wondering if you had any good tips or ideas???

I have my Rotifers in a sleep mode :)
I keep 2 2litter soda bottle on my refrigerator with rotifer and rgcomplete on it after 10 days or so I change water on the bottles about half ond let them out about two days with a air stone and ones the multiply again I put them back on my frige like this you keep them alive and you don't spend much on water and rgcomplite :)
And when u ready to use them again put them back on he 5 gallon bucket and let them multiply again for a couple of days and you are ready to feed your clowns :)

I will have to remember this I lost two 5gal buckets because I ran out of RG complete and did not want to pay for two day shipping so I tired phytoplankton and they ended up crashing.

So put them in 2 liter bottle and put them in fridge with some RGcomplete and after 10 days get them out and change 1/2 water and put air stone in the bottle for two days then put them back in fridge? Is that what your saying cause that sounds alot easier then dealing with them everyday when you have no clown babies haha

My controller it's messing up

My controller it's messing up

I have a question about temperature on the main tank with eggs in
THE ? Is will ( temperature affect the eggs if it changes about 3 degrees on one day?)Here is a pic of the temperature graft from my controller.

BTW The eggs are about 2to 3 day old by now.

Yes I been doing this for about a month because I haven't been able to collect my fry and I didn't want to waste the rgcomplite
Just remember to add 5 drops of RG EVERY 4-5 day like this you will save some $ on salt and water and RG :))
