I will have to remember this I lost two 5gal buckets because I ran out of RG complete and did not want to pay for two day shipping so I tired phytoplankton and they ended up crashing.

from reeds:

Since rotifers need to be maintained/harvested every day, it can be a problem if you go out town for several days. Fortunately there is an easy way to put your rotifers in "vacation mode" (hibernation):

Pour a liter or so of your culture into a 1 liter container. Cover loosely to allow oxygen to enter.
Add a bit of extra algae to darken the culture
Put the liter container into your refrigerator
After 7 days 50% of your rotifers should be alive
After 14 days 15% of your rotifers should be alive
Restart your culture using the directions above

Man you guys seem to have fast growers. I have about a dozen that are
14dayish old and I think they are just now going threw meta. starting to turn a little orange and starting to swim like a fish. What temp do you guys keep your fry tank at? Living in Florida I have not been using a heater and the temp in all my tanks stay between 77 to 80 degs. Also had a heater fail once, little gun shy now.

haha funny you should ask because my eheim jager 100W heater is messed up I believe because it keeps my tank at around 81-82 degrees no matter what I set it on. Like right now I have it on 72 just to see if it would kick it down and it doesn't. It also depends on what type of clownfish you have. Occ. Clowns tend to grow faster then Percs. I had my first stripe I believe the 8-10 days and my second strip 10-15 days.

Keep your head up and don't rush it they will come along and it is awesome! I don't have any kids and I feel like I have 50 off them now haha. Pretty sure my fiance feels unloved the past couple of weeks

Ya I'm hanging in there, I've got a wife with the same thoughts. But my daughter is into it. Saturday night we were able to get about 15 or so when they hatched. So now I've got two fry tanks going, been a cool science project for my daughter 4 1/2 year old and I ( just a big kid at heart 45). The parents laided more eggs Sunday thinking just let nature take its course until we can get the two batches grown up. :fish2:

thats funny! I only have one 10 gallon tank going with babies. I don't have the space nor money to have multiple tanks going but once I get married in 2 months and eventually get a house then hopefully I'll have my on lil room to work with and have plenty of breeding tanks. But right now I'm just taking it one batch at a time. Mine are 24 days old today and I believe I have around 40-50 Cause last time I counted I had 63 and I have had some die since I put a power filter in there to help with ammonia. I think I might have added it too soon.

My temperature always at 80-81!!

77 may be to cool for them try to keep them around 80-81 al the time if it gets cool by one or two degrees it will take two or three days extra to reach the meta.

Usually they past meta in the 8-10 day.

I'll try that

I'll try that

Thanks I'll have to try that on the second batch that I have hatch on Sunday. I'll leave the first batch like they are and see what happens. What a trip this is and you guys with all the cool pics and videos keep me going. I've tried to take some pics they just don't come out wrong lenses I guess.

thanks for the ideas

thanks for the ideas

I've been following along and you guys have been giving great ideas. I half to admit that I did brake one tank trying to drill it like you have so I can hook the fry tank into the main tanks water system. That looked to be a great way to keep the fry tanks water in check. I'll try the wife Iphone for a few pics.

I used a diamond bit to cut thru the glass I will post a video soon pretty easy if you have a idea :)

If you doing this already the trick is to keep the surface wet.
