My poor purple tilefish

I don't know who to be more sad about the one in the pic or my remaining one.

Just as a little side note this fish was perfect in everyday and i had just seen it an hour before this happened tonight hanging out with its partner.

I uograded the tank about 2 months ago. And the anemone had been doing great maybe a little to good. I believe it's a mini max.

Oh well I'm going to have a friend come over and try to remove the anemone. Can't have it eating healthy fish in front of my eyes.

The mini max is decent size but still the tilefish was larger.

Only thing i can think of is that the tilefish went over and tried to get some food or something out of it.

What a bummer, sorry to hear/see the death of your fish. If you like nems get a rock anemone, they are really cool.

I think the fish died and the nem ate it. I just don't think the fish would swim into it and get eaten. But I guess anything possible.

It depends how sticky the anemone is. I have pretty much the same kind of maxi mini and it isn't too sticky, so when fish touch it they get stung but can get away with ease.

But if an anemone is very sticky it can catch a careless fish with ease. Usually the struggle of the fish to break free will just get it even more entangled and accelerate the process. I've experienced it myself when getting stuck to gig while feeding it. All I could do was hold still until it let go.

bummer!!! my pair is a single now too. tilefish seem accident prone, i could believe he just made a mistake...
