My present placement of 6100s in 180

Hi roger,

I have a standard 180g tank with 2 6100 streams in stream rocks.

I don't mount any of my corals so, nor do i glue any of my rockwork so I find it hard to reproduce the exact flow pattern between cleanings. Right now my flow is illustrated by the red arrows... I find that some of my tank does not get much flow.. Particularly the back of the middle area and also the areas behind the actual streams themslves.

Can you suggest any improvement I could make to my flow patterns? I was thinking of putting the 2 streams on magnet mounts on the back walls in the corners (as shown by the green circles) and point them so that they could flow like the new green arrows.

I think I will need to get the new swivel arms to be able to make them rotate to that angle.

Would that help with my flow patterns?

Thanks

I'm also wondering.. for 1/2" thick glass will the smaller magnet suffice? or would i be better/safer getting the thicker magnet to hold up the streams?

I have a 180G with a 6100 and a 6060 and I have them with magnets on the back wall facing the front glass at an angle. When the water meets at the glass, the water swirls and hits the back glass. The overflow placement on my tank make it hard to get the correct flow.

Dave,

I don't see any problem with the placement of your 6100's. Have you had any death in the slower current areas. Do you have a multicontroller? I have a 180 with 2 6100's on a controller which I have on mags at the end of the tank. I am them at an angle at the front of the glass which gives me a great flow from middle to front. I aim the returns in the middle and the back to add flow to the slower current areas.

ah i see. so i guess i'll spend the money on the larger magnets.

what's the thickness on those larger magnets? I'm not sure if I have enough space for them behind my tank.

I wanted to mount them on the back glass so that I wouldn't lose realestate on the side of the tanks heh. Do you have a photo of your tank dustin? I would like to see what the streams look like mounted on the sides.

Same for you bpd? do you have a photo of your stream placement? would love something to compare to.

Thanks guys

oh do you guys both have 1/2" thick glass?

Wow:eek1: Nice tank! If you wouldn't have pointed out where they were, I would never have known where they were!

hey roger,

one last question when you get around to answering this thread =)

is it normal for one driver to be warmer than another driver?

(those blue metal boxes)

one of my streams perpetually has a warmer box than the other. it's not burning hot or anything. just noticeably warmer

Doh! Sorry, sometimes one slips by me. I would do as you said. It should work fine. The smaller mag holder would work, these things are very strong and slightly under rated.

The drivers do vary somewhat in the heat they produce. Their are variations in components, resistors and the like generally have an accepted variance of 5%. Further, a warmer driver could indicate the pump is working harder, it is new and not worn in or a part is not perfectly lined up or is dirty. People often neglect to check that the upper bearing is free of the magnet (one should spin freely on the other) or that the hole in the center of the magnet is clear of debris.

thanks roger!

since i used streamrocks originally, i don't think i have the mounting hardware that came with my streams. If i purchase the stream rock and the new swivel arm, is there anything else I would need to mount the stream to the magnet?

For the magnet holders you need parts 6080.40- swivel arm and part 6080.23 sliding piece with hinge.
