My Purple Gigantea...

Just Reefin'
My new Purple Gigantea.... picked him up yesterday, mouth is tight so far, and hoping it continues... I'm going to get some Cipro just to have on hand in case he gets some sort of infection.

Oh... I'm jealous! I'm looking forward to watching this color up!

You & Me both :-) Before he starts coloring up, he needs to be healthy, so this week and next will be critical in the survival of this gig...... Hoping for the best.

Thanks... some more updated pictures from when lights have come on now with intensity.

I will take some in the next hour or two when the Radions are 100%.... I've noticed since taking these pictures, some of his tentacles have become shorter, so think he is adjusting to the Radions vs the almost non existent light he was under last night.

Here are some updates closer to lunch time now where the Radions are 80-90% in intensity. I notice that his tentacles are becoming shorter as I don't think he has to stretch so hard to get light, but who knows... Certainly since the morning time when it started ramping up, now under almost full power they aren't quite as long everywhere. Mouth is almost completely closed, no deflate, and no expelling of anything... So far so good. We'll see how he continues to enjoy the Radions.

The one thing I will say is, from when he was floating in the bag last night to right now... wow what a difference some color spectrum does. His color is beautiful compared to the pale purple he was.

Congratz :) the short tentalces with the lights coming on means he's still settling in, it could take a couple days before the the tentacles elongate.. (you want them to be longer not stubby, that shows signs of a stress free, healthy gig) but this one looks promising imo :) but who am i to say whats promising and not promising :P

I had a little scare earlier, but realized what was (hopefully) going on.... Yesterday when I was moving him into a spot, he grabbed a newly bought Margarita snail, and wouldn't let go so I gave up and got lost n the folds.... This afternoon, he was expelling brown stuff (stringy) and deflated. He has since inflated to look like this again, and I forgot the empty Margarita shell on the sand, and a crab has now taken the empty shell. I'm "hoping" I wasn't around when he spit it out or whatever. Hopefully.... key word is hopefully, he had some indigestion after a big meal, first one in a long while.... Updated pictures here.......

Look who came in for a cameo.

If he deflates again tomorrow, then I know we're in trouble, but he's back to what he looked like earlier.....

My Wife said the next couple hours I have to do something that does NOT involve the Gig.......... :crazy1: :crazy1: Wife just doesn't get me and my Gig does she?!?!?! :headwalls:

very nice nem Tom, good score!!

Thanks brother! I'm not naive enough to think he's just going to give me this smooth of a ride... I'm preparing and ready to Cipro him the moment he shows me he needs it...... I'm hoping he doesn't, but I'm hoping for the best, and preparing for the worst. Either way, the color is BEAUTIFUL and I will do whatever I have to, to save him, come Hell or high water..

I will do it to my other anemone with the mouth problem once he does not get well, I should get some cipro this fri, Godspeed to all anemones for recovery. Keep me posted

Agreed, let me know if you need any help with anything... Good luck, keep us posted on your thread. I'm going to be on the look-out for a Green and or Red Gig to add to this tank down the road... I might just make this a species tank and have several gigs...

red gig is almost un heard of (although, i may have located one.. which would be the first all red s. gig known to be in captivity.. i beleive) but thats g14 classified i am awaiting comfirmation of the verracue ) ... all you can really find is ones like Gary's in the anemone forums.. that is tri colored..

If we can get the healthy with treatment, I can wait. I'm hoping to add a blue Gig in the near future once this one proves to be healthy, and go from there. The green is a beautiful color as well.... Might just turn this into a gig tank :-)

haha, become an addict like me, with an S. Gig Farm :P

4 Purple, 1 Blue, 1 Green... :P i pretty much turned my 65g into a S. Gig tank, there are some SPS in there, but i know that there is a high risk of my gig shifting one direction and possibly wiping out my corals, so its no big deal to me, my S. Gig's come first for me :)

Agreed. My 150 will probably turn into a S. Gig farm :-) I just need to find a green gig now... that's next on the list. I need to come check out your farm sometime, you have some beautiful animals....

I have a 20G tank with LEDs, and Cipro ready to go if I find one that needs some help to get it to proper state...
