My QT cycle

Well the time has come again to add a couple more fish to the tank. I revived my QT tank again after sitting dormant with salt water, old rock and dead coral for about 3 months (no heat, no circulation) the water just kept evaporating over the 3 months. After cleaning it and mixing up new salt water I started the HOB filter and heater and noticed yesterday (after 2 weeks of running with a dead shrimp to start the cycle) that there is a crab still alive in the tank. He was a hitchhiker from my DT so I just threw him in the QT (not thinking anything about it, knowing that it would eventually die or if I had to treat with copper or anything else)

Any way I know it's still too early to see an ammonia spike but my question is if the crab stayed alive in the cold salt water would the bacteria for the cycle do the same? Will I see a cycle?

Oh and at what temperature do the nitrifying bacteria die off??

You'll still probably have a cycle. Although the crab and other hardy organisms made it in the neglected tank that doesn't mean everything survived. Don't know the answer to the temp question but stagnant water without oxygen was probably a bigger issue.

BTW, I'd pull out the dead shrimp and feed lightly instead. No need to have an ammonia spike kill even more survivors
