Are these sumps worth it? I priced it out and the sump is Over $500...I looked at the trigger sumps too, are the differences between the two really that much? Sorry very new to sumps. Just trying to figure things out. I also am going to put in a email to melevsreef to see what they have to say.

I got the bio sump and I like it more than my display tank!! I do feel that the quality is TOP notch, having said that I feel they are a bit overpriced.

I have a 60" x 30" x 20" MRC Bio Sump and it is a work of art. They are not cheap, but one thing to look at is that MRC uses 3/8" thick acrylic, so their sumps are built like tanks and they do not bow. Most other sumps you will see are made of 1/4". Just keep that in mind when comparing model to model.

Comes down to choice. MRC is the Ferrari of sumps. The best made, IMO.

Sorry I have to disagree. No way id spend that kind of money on a sump. You can make them at a fraction of the price, and if you are not that handy plenty other at a better price. Sumps are not seen, so why pump all that money into them? better off to spend that money else where. Just IMO

You can make s nice sump from a 40B tank.. Petco has their $1 a gallon sale and you can silicone in a few pieces of pane glass and have a nice sump for less than $60

I was thinking of going this route, but I am not not at all confident in my capabilities...I know..fail..

Hello,
I agree......that you could build a nice sump out of a 40b.....even you too:) I will say that to me the SYSTEM is more than just the DT and some stuff under the stand. I can build what ever i want now after many years in our hobby but i bought the nicest quality products i could afford back in the day. MRC builds killer sump's so does Trigger along with several other's:)

Are you running the "bio media". What is your water chemistry like?

What is inside the stand is very important IMO. Sometimes you see a nice tank and when open the sump area it is a bunch of rigged stuff, with things hanging everywhere, ugly.
A nice tank with a good quality sump, and nice organized equipment invites one to enjoy not only the tank, but sump area too.

This. I made basic a 3 chamber straight through sump with a 40 breeder bought at a $1/g sale. Lasted me many years. Some silicone and some panes of glass cut for me to size was really easy.

I moved my sump location this past year and did try out a trigger systems crystal elite and really liked it.

MRC has been around a long time and does make quality stuff.

However, I just swapped out that trigger systems sump with a 75g tank I just picked up from another $1/g sale since they have it going up to 75s this year. Pretty awesome. I really liked the trigger systems sump layout and made the baffles based of it.
