My Reef to Rainforest Build

Great pics!! Looking great btw.

Thank you. It was a rough few weeks getting through this round of algae. I didn't even like looking at the tank. I had tried scrubbing with a toothbrush and I think it made it worse, just spread it around to other rocks and the sand. Im not really sure what got rid of it, I tried a few things so it could have been one or a combination.

  • I got a large order of snails and emerald crabs. Although I lost a few Emerald Crabs and Turbo snails (boy was that ever stinky!) there still is a good amount of snails and a few Emeralds I think.

  • I bought all new filters and membrane for my ro/di unit. I had changed everything but the membrane about 4-6 months ago and didn't realize I was getting a reading in the 40s when I started the tank.

  • I added GFO in a NextReef reactor. Even though they say bio-pellets or GFO, not both. Right now Im running both and seeing good results.

So for now, Im keeping things as is and will continue to watch how everything is doing. I have some new corals coming in on Thursday and Im hoping that will be it. ;)

Excellent! Hopefully it's gone for good. :)

Great build and love how you placed in the closet and can be viewed from 2 rooms. Get some GFO going if you dont already and kick up the skimmer a little to get rid of the algae you are dealing with before it get too bad. Beautiful tank.

Thank you allsp40! I have a hard time getting any work done now though, I either stare at the tank or get up and go in the other room to look at it. Ate my lunch today at the little cafe table in the guest room. Much prettier to look at without fuzzy, brown algae covering the rocks.

Yes, I added some GFO at the same time as the CUC and the algae has subsided a LOT. Skimmer is pulling some nasty gunk out too, running it on the wet side. Corals are all doing well and showing growth.

And..... The Rainforest Side

I'll work on getting some panoramic shots of both rooms this weekend.

My fish love Larry's Reef Frenzy!

And a short video of my Poison Dart Frogs, in my Rainforest Office

Leucomelas, Imitators (thumbnails), and TriColors with Tadpoles

I had not stopped in a while but things have come along nicely. Everything is looking great.

Love the frog video. I wish I could have a viv like big that.

Awesome. Do you have a bird, too??! Jealous of your zoo.

Oh, yeah... you could hear him/her in the video. Its an African Grey Timneh, Corona. Too funny and too smart! It is a zoo here. We also have a persian cat (Plazma cuz she has a flat screen), two dogs (Cayenne, Australian Shepherd and Maggie, Jack *ss Terrier) and about 40 horses (none are mine, I used to show/breed/raise QHs, now just rent stalls to trainers)
