My Reefing journal...

Those Tangs don't fight they seem to live in harmony. NO tang police needed there.
There's no problem here officer... LoL

Looking great, but I can't believe you put a 120 on that puny looking stand.
LoL... That stand was supoossed tp have cabinets but didnt work like that, now the extra foot is going to be used for a future upgrade (5x2x2)...

Looks good ...
Thanks nanchil...

Okay, with most of my parameters in check, the only battle has been a low PH sometimes sitting at 7.8. This was something that I was that I wanted to fix though, so I thought of using kalk in my top off or a different dosing recipe that might raise my PH. I went with a different option which was to run my skimmers air intake toward the window for a better source of oxygen. I just wanted to see the difference it would make and then take any neccessary steps.
So here are the results. Since I put the new air line my PH though it isnt between 8.2 - 8.4 it has not went under 8.02 and peeking at 8.24. Everything looks good so Im not sure if I should change my dosing recipe or just leave it alone.

I have the same problem, I use to dose 2-part then kalk and my pH was between 8.2-8.4. Because of my schedule and I got tired of mixing 12 g of kalk per week, I invested in a Ca reactor (korallin 1502), over the last year my pH has been between 7.7-8.1, I even added a 2nd chamber to my reactor but it didn't help. My tank being in the basement doesn't help either, but my corals seem to be Ok so I'm not worrying about it. I did try the skimmer air line out the window and it did help a bit, I may drill a whole through the glass this spring/summer, can't leave the window open this time of year..

@ map, I was thinking the same thing, everything looks okay so why mess with it. But then I thought could it look better if I did something about it.
@ Harry, yes it is, The PH has went from a low of 7.8 to 8.0. With my new toy I get to monitor the PH very carefully. Niiice....

I run Bio-Pellets, started running them 10/6/10 and at that time my phos was .16. I think the most important part was that I reached these results without changing my feeding habits... I feed every day and I feed my fish well.
The second week into it I checked and I was down to .11, excited about the results I tested 3 days later and I was at .09... The skimate was beyond stinky. On 10/25/10 I had reached my goal to be at an acceptable level at .02... My readings have stayed at those levels .02 - .03

TODAY
I put up another reactor and started running carbon can't wait to see that crystal clear water...
Also the reactor running the Bio-Pellets was running low so I had to replace the depleted pellets, not that bad first bag since I started in October.

Went out and picked up needed supplies for Randy's 2 part, which I started using on Wednesday... I kept my usual dosing amount but I new there would be a difference. I tested today and it wasn't that bad, I went from 10.2 on my Alk to 9.6 and from 430 on my Cal to 400...
This switch went way better than I thought but now I have to find that new spot...

Brooklyn,

You probably already know but be mindful of the carbon. Cleaner, clearer water may make your corals bleach because of the increased light that will be getting to them. Might want to reduce "lights on" time to reduce the likelyhood of too much light getting to them. Also I know of others that had problems with alk burn with low nutrients if the alk was above 8 DKH.

@ gary, Thanks for the advice. I will defenitely be keeping a close eye on the light situation. Alk burn, wow... I stay at about .02 - .03 and never thought about that being a problem... Hold on I was just speaking to someone about two millies that were doing great and all the sudden it had a section of polyps missing; everything looks good except these two. Hmmm, I guess its reading time. Once again thanks for the heads up.

The Apex controller is the best... I received my first email and text alert in a real situation. Last night it was hot in my house so I opened the window, got tired went to bed and left it open. At 6am my phone goes off and it's the tanks temp which hit 77, I didn't like waking up at 6 but it was sweet to see this thing in action.

Murray Camp gave a presentatioin at LIRA in 2009 or 2010, but he's a good speaker. Spoke exactly about the article u posted. Good read! thanks

I decided to change the way I dose my tank, Let me explain... I simply took the amount I dose in a 24hr period and divided that by 4... So instead of dosing all at one time I now dose 4 times a day.
I've heard stability is key, so what I hope to accomplish is a more stable environment for my corals.

RBTA split last week and I pretty much took my tank apart trying to get the second piece... This thing made a b-line right at the sps. I decided to do away with both pieces being that I'm going HardCore with the sps.
