I put a new 4" regal in qt yesterday and he looks great. Good color. Very fat. Very active. He is swimming all over but sometimes he swims sideways and upside down. Is this normal behavior. He is not eating yet, but this is common. No signs of anysickness

I just put a carbon packet in the filter to remve the prazipro from the water to see if that helps. We will see.

I did a 25% water change.

I did notice that his belly may be a little too fat. Possible internal parisites so the swimming could be a reaction to the prazipro fighting that. However, I am thinking I did not shake the prazipro up good enough, so with the water change and running the carbon for 24hrs or so, I should be able to dose the prazipro again and make sure I shake it for like 5 minutes.

BTW the QT is a 46 gallon corner tank.

Yes shaking the bottle very well is important although i dont shake it for 5 minutes. If you dont shake it though you end up with a very strong dose or a very weak dose.

I dont remember how much I shook it, but I figured play it safe, remove it from water and try it again. I think the fish swimming wierd could be because of internal parisites, a strong dose, or internal parisites to treatment. I will dose tomorrow after I see how his behavior is.

I was told to add a titch of vodka to prazipro to help it mix easier. Good luck with the regal. Been on the lookout for another healthy one locally.

Useing the vodka is for regular praziquental so it will mix properly.Prazipro is already mixed so their is no need to do that.

what temp? what salinity?

hows his color, shape, swimming?

a good 4" regal will eat within hours .... dont assume a non eating fish is "normal"

what foods are you offering?

you should consider droping both salinity and temperature

not eating is probably a symptom along with not swimming well, you need to consider it as a sick fish, not treat it as a single issue

cyanide can cause both swimbladder problems and eating problems, how long was it at the LFS for? when you say fat, is any part fatter than the rest, bloated maybe? when he is swimming upside down does he look like he is trying to turn right and either can or cant, or does it look like he doesnt know the difference?
