My rimless 24"x24"x20" build thread

Wow, it sure didn't take long for this thread to start going downhill did it?

I stopped posting as much on here for this very same reason. It seems someone always has to do this.

Ski11lz, I can find fault with every tank, production built or custom built, including your very own I'm sure. Like I said originally, I knew I wasn't going to get the best quality around, and I knew I would get the tank with a crappy silicone job, but I still ordered it and am happy with it. Afteralll it is my tank, right?

However if you'd like to have a custom tank built by AGE or AO, feel free to do so and send it to me, I'll gladly accept it. And I can guarantee your wallet will be a lot thinner than mine at the end of the day.

Look dude, don't take what said to heart, its not aimed at you its aimed at Glasscages, i was going to buy from these people and up to this day i am still hearing they are not so bad and you get what you pay for, but only to hear shortly after they suck and its not even worth my time.

Tip: pointless to drop money on high end equipment and have a sh*ty tank, you can cut corners in this hobby but its where to cut them.

It's not cutting a corner, the tank will work just as long as any other and if not longer. They don't always look the nicest, but they last a long time.

I think the point was, your not in the position to tell anyone else but yourself if he got ripped off and the money was wasted.

The fact is, if someone buys something and they are happy with it themselves, then they did not get ripped off as there are multiple ways to weigh in one a successful transaction and product.

Edit: Let me also mention, they you have the ability to look up the cost on their website, and/or a close enough amount. They even show you the shipping charge. $84.

Sorry Ski11lz, maybe I was having a bad day, so I apologize.

Honestly I've heard bad stories about AO, AGE, as well as glasscages. But I was able to get 3 sides starphire, the dimensions I wanted, and had it within a week of ordering it. For the price, I couldn't get that anywhere else.

That joint looks horrible on that first picture, but it honestly isn't that bad, 1/32 of an inch isn't much of anything. I think what makes it look worse is the angle the picture was taken, the silicone sticking up past the panels, and the bevel the rear pane has on the top.

I know a lot of local people that have GC tanks and are happy with them. I too have heard the horror stories, but most of those seem to be with the very large tanks, or those that didn't allow 30 days for the silicone to set up properly before filling with water.

The tank cost a little over $500, that included the shipping and such. The drive was minimal, approx. 30 minutes. All in all, I'm perfectly happy with the tank.

Chris welcome back to the game...hope you find a job soon. That tank is going to be sweet.

Ski11z that was uncalled for. If you would like to donate a tank then go ahead but for now that tank will do just fine. Seriously I can't stand people who are going to hijack like that. If you have a problem with GC tanks then go start a thread somewhere else. BTW Chris had 2 Oceanic Tech tanks before so I think he knows what he is doing.

Alright so we look forward to more pics soon!

I got a GC tank a few months ago and very happy with it. It's built like a tank so I don't think that anything is going to happen to it. Like you, the silicone work was a little sloppy so I spent a little time cleaning it up with a razor blade and such. Big deal.

All in all, the tank is doing great and looks great. You can click the little red house to check it out

Good luck with the build and getting a good job you can enjoy and prosper with. The tank and cabinet look GREAT! Keep us updated to the progress.

Great looking start Chris!!

I'm just now catching up to your build, I've been on a cruise with my son.

Look forward to seeing more!

P.S. My tank is a glass cages and I'm very happy with it. Coming up on a year in a few months.

Chris,

Was the $500 including the sump or just the tank?

I like that size tank and may need to downsize in the future, so this thread looks very pleasing to me ^_^

That was just for the tank. It's considerably cheaper if you don't go with starphire.

Upgrading size doesn't really bring the costs up much either.

I paid $900 delivered for mine and it has three sides of starphire, rimless, RR, overflow cover, bulkheads and two custom drilled return holes in the back glass.

You just have to expect to clean up the silicone when you get the tank. It isn't 100% ready to go. For $1,500 in savings I'll clean some silicone.

But to each their own.

100% agree.

Update - Stand is built

Update - Stand is built

I finished building the stand today. Tomorrow I plan on cleaning up the garage and start staining it. Here are some pictures...

I actually might not stain it. I may leave it natural and just apply some lacquer to it. I really like this type of wood, and I'm not sure if I want to hide the majority of it with a dark stain.

Another great looking stand Chris! I agree, its almost a shame to stain that wood. Laquer a small piece and lets see it.

And get some water in that tank!!!!

That looks like your old garage, are you still at that house?

Thanks Cham!

Yup, I'm still there for the time being. Taking things slowly before making a huge decision.

I'm hoping to get water in it by next weekend. I'll lacquer a piece and take a picture of it.

How much did you pay for the tank, and don't exaggerate the price, give the exact price, plus your time and the gas/shipping you wasted to get it, then we can decide if it was a rip-off.
that would be what.
