My Shallow Cube Build Thread

So I'm leaving on vacation at 6am tomorrow morning. Last couple weeks my ATO controller from autotopoff.com started "buzzing" when it was in use.

I emailed the customer support there and they were of little help. Then a few days ago I noticed it was overfilling my sump. I emailed them again and they were once again of no help. Seemed like they are more interested in selling a new one than backing their products up and since mine is barely a year old I will say that I am very unsatisfied at their level of support.

I guess I've gotten used to the incredible levels of service given by DrF&S, IceCap & Tunze etc. It really ruins my day to find a vendor that just refuses to help. :(

So I spent double the amount and bought a reef fanatic unit. Hopefully this time I'll get a great unit that works trouble free for a long time. :) Unfortunately today it totally went out on me and is 100% inoperable. So now I'm leaving for vacation with no ATO and trusting a family friend that has no clue what reefing is about. :(

3 year update time, sorry for the focus issues.

Suggestions for how to help with macro shots welcome.

I didn't, I changed the foods around util I found the combo that worked best for me. I found the right combination of foods, the next step is finding the limits of how much I can use.

Awesome work on both tanks, new and old. I have a question about your stand. I just built one out of oak myself, and whatever finish your builder used is perfect. It shows the grain and is still black. Any idea how he did it? Simple black spray paint or black paint? Did he use a coat of primer before hand? Or is it laquer or black stain or anything? Please, I have to know! Keep up the great work, the newest coral shots look amazing!

I believe he sealed it with a semigloss that actually came out of an aerosol can.

That's about as much as I know and remember, I don't do wood working so that's why I hired it out :)

Thanks. I don't normally ask this many questions, I just really liked the way both your stands turned out wish me luck :)

No worries man, sorry I couldn't be more help. I just don't know much about woodworking and stains.

Good luck and post up your results!

Awesome job. I love your external pumps, wish I had the $ to do that. I am in the same boat. Broke down and sold off my 135 mixed reef when we moved. Picked up a 36x36x9.5 cube last weekend. All kinds of crazy ideas on how to set this thing up, it's a wicked frag tank. It's all about the build!!! :D
