My Shallow Cube

Looking great, premilove!

I noticed that you never painted your back glass, is this something you wish you had?

Lovely Picasso's BTW.

thank you, the picasso's were a steal. i haven't really seen these patterns locally. the larger of the two-the one that is more black, seems like an onyx picasso. her original mate died a few days after i got him, and she went homicidal- grabbing my poor mandarin and stuffing him into her anemone's mouth. she also survived sandy. she's one hell of a tough fish. her mate now, seems to be a super picasso, was all beat up when it came into my lfs. i felt really bad and took him home. they both are pigs and eat from my hand!

Good to hear somebody else uses the aqua vitro products. I use the fuel and have been very happy with it.
Thanks reefshadow. Only thing I would have done is paint to back of the tank, and made the electrical wiring a little cleaner in the cabinet. There isn't allot of room down there and when it's up and running its hard to rearrange stuff. Other then that I love the deep blue layout and quality.

Aquavitro products are great. I occasionally use fuel and mix it with reefroids. I haven't done that in a few weeks, I'll think I'll do that tonight. I'm very anal about overfeeding. I defrost mysis for the clowns, and feed them each one piece at a time with tweezers.

Did you replace any of the original plumbing? I've heard opinions on other threads and forums that the plumbing is "garbage"- especially the bulkheads.

I'm planning to paint the back wall and overflow window black.

I hear you guys about the cabinet issue. Premilove recommended that I increase my sump size, but my stand is only 22 inches tall. I would have to have a custom build on the sump tank and oh my lord, what I have already spent on this build is scaring me. :)

I bought my tank from my LFS that already had it set up. I do notice my bulkheads to be kind of unstable but then again that could easily be my poor plumbing skills. I hear you about price. It
sucks however you'll end up spending more money to fix future problems that could result due to a small sump size. Trust me, I'm saying this from personal experiences. The 10 gal sump was not a good idea. It is way too small. Only half of it is going to be full of water regardless. That's a 30 gallon display with a sump with only 5 usable gallons.

thanks! it doesn't really bother me. the more i don't look at the tank, the more i don't mess with it, and the happier my corals are lol. however i do wish i went an alternate route for my light mount..

Is that a cabinet mount in your first pictures? What don't you like about it?

I went with the Ecoxotic wall mount and I'm worried I won't like it! I had a lot of trouble finding out what the exact specs on it are, as far as vertical adjustability. I need to figure out how far I want my modules to be above the water's surface, and I've been out of the hobby for several years, so I really have no good idea of what is appropriate for my specific light scheme. I did get a dimmer for the 3 Panorama modules, so I have some control over intensity.

Do you think the magenta LED's add some pop?

I know, sigh... I'll probably spend some more money on it down the road. Increased height is out of the question with my stand, but width is negotiable, by about 7 inches.

So you found that a 5 gallon safety margin was about right for this tank?

Oh yeah- meant to ask both of you- did you drill an anti-siphon hole in the return pipe? I've heard that the included plumbing does not have this feature.

Yea it's the stand/cabinet and tank mount. I don't like the fact that it is on the dead center of my stand. The mount doesn't allow me to place my vortech exactly where I would like to keep it. Did you get the RGB modules or just the magentas? When I first had the ecoxotic fixture I only had the blues and whites. My radion has every color. It may add that certain pop but after awhile it gets played out. What's the difference between the tank mount and wall mount? The tank mount is a PITA to adjust.

If I'm not mistaken, my sump rose between 4"-5" when the pump was off. 5 gallons seemed about right but definitely test it! Yes I drilled the anti siphon right under the 90 degree elbow for my return going out from the overflow.

My first buy on the modules was 2 of the actinic/12 k. I planned to retrofit them into my Biocube. That tank broke, so I decided on the Deep Blue 30. I then ordered a single 12 K module before realizing that it may be too white with no actinic supplementation. So then I ordered 2 of the actinic/magenta stunners to add some more actinic pop with a touch of magenta. Hopefully they adjust the 12 K a bit.

ETA- So I have 2 Pro white/actinic, 1 Pro white, and 2 actinic/magenta stunners. 60 watts total I believe.

I really would like one of the RGB modules, but I have heard that PAR wise they don't really do the job, and are more for asthetics. Going with the stunners was cheaper, both for the modules themselves, and the fact that I don't have to buy the remote. I may get a RGB down the road though.

I chose the wall mount because my stand is so short I wasn't sure a cabinet mount would even work. I looked into a tank mount but the Ecoxotic mount had really bad reviews.

oh ok. yeah that tank mount is horrible i'm glad you didn't get it!

premilove, im starting a deep blue build and was curious where you got your sumo from. Im a in search of the biggest sump i can fit in that deep blue stand. your sounds perfect.

got a few nice pieces. gold tip torch, orange/gold hammers and another acro. also picked up another clown that i am holding for a friend. the new clown is getting along just fine with my pair. i think i am officially packed! can you spot the new acro?

Must be the delicious looking yellowish one in the center :)

Ahhhh. I love getting to the LFS. Can't wait 'till I'm there.

you gonna need a bigger tank soon packing it like that what new tank you breewin now?

Lol yea man there is no room left in my tank for anything. It sucks bc if i want to adjust the placement of one acro, i have to move an additional 2-3 colonies. I'm debating between deep blue 60 gal(48"x24"x12") vs the 80 gal (48"x24"x16"). I am leaning towards the 60 since it is literally my tank x 2.

However, the new clown(HBK-shawn michaels, the heart break kid) has been picking on the smallest clown(dre).

I figured this was going to happen. Snoop, Dre's partner, stood up against the bullying, and now HBK won't leave this spot. If this becomes more of a problem, I might put HBK in my fuge.
