My skimmer is foul!

At night and in the morning my house smells of what I think is skim mate.

Anyone else deal with this issue? I'm thinking about adding one of those odor absorbers under the stand.

Mine is foul but I never smell it until I remove the cover over the skim cup and our tank is right next to our dinning table. I clean the cup inside and out every 3 days.

I can small mine when I open cabinet and get close. Maybe try putting few baking soda boxes in there to see if it helps. It should

Also.....Never feed them asparagus ( :

Wow, that's just nasty! Not that this helps, but I've had a nano skimmer running for a few months on my holding tank, NOW its starting to produce the stinky stuff. I never knew how nasty that stuff was, LOL! I'd hate to think my house would even remotely smell of that. My wife would kill me!

Your going to have run skim mate cup with carbon. That's the only 100% way of removing the smell.

Mine gets rank after I add vodka to reenergize my bio-pellets. The bacteria goes up and skimmer goes crazy sucking out all the nutrients. Black skim mate is your best friend. I clean it every other day to keep the odor down.

I clean my skimmer cup every week, and yes when i remove the top its vile. But otherwise dont smell anything.

I think its Avast Marine that sells a skimmate container that you connect to your collection cup via its drain. The cool feature is that it has a small container that you add carbon on top so the carbon removes the odor of the skimmate.

Last Thursday I purchased two of the arm and hammer refrigerator deodorizes and haven't had any skim mate smells since. We'll see how long they last. If you have a smaller setup, you may only need one. They come with suction cups and I attached it against my sump.
