My soon to be new clam!

Do you suggest anything? I have been doing alot of reading and have been trying to get ready. My wife will have to acclimate the clam as I will be at work. I think she said she will put in the sand bed for now which is where I would like it to. Should it be ok there or does it have to be in the rock work? I know they bore into rock but there is more room on the sand bed. I have 2 250w MH so I think it would have enough light on the sand bed. It's going into a 60g tank. Thanks for the help!

how old is the tank? what else is in it? what kind of water test numbers do you have?
make sure to turn the clam in all directions once it's in the main tank to dislodge any air bubbles. put a small flat rock under the sand under it to attach onto. little flow. follow rah instructions on acclimating. you ave plenty of light if the bulbs are less than a year old.

I'm the "wife" lol...our tank is almost 5 years old...test numbers are pH 8.4, ammonia 0, alkalinity 8.8, calcium 420, nitrite 0, nitrate 1.0, and salinity is 1.024. I just noticed the nitrate rise but I believe it's due to the death of a maze brain just purchased, which I removed from the tank a couple of hours ago. We have a lot of softies..leathers, colt, xenia...LPS corals..torch, frogspawn, hammer...also brain, favites, mushrooms, zoos, a scroll and more. I've already set up a place on the sandbed away from all corals. We also have a clown, cardinal & a dottyback...several turbo snails and hermits, 2 peppermint shrimp, fireshrimp and a serpent star.
I was also wondering if vermitid snails or bristleworms can hurt the clam in anyway?

nope. you have no crabs???? no emerald, no sally, no porcelain?
looking positive!

Alright sounds good...thanks. I've also heard that freshwater dips are good to rid it of hitchhiker snails, etc., what's your take on that?

s/d, that's another no, unless it's for a minute at most and only if the fw is same temp same ph as clam water, but that would most likely not get rid of anything much anyway. my take is a reputable seller, and i think rah probably is, who has qt'd the clam and a qt by you fr at least a week.
just set up a 10 gal with some flow and sand and examine the clam both during the day and at night. plus, i would not trust wherever/whoever you heard the info about fwd for valid info on tridacs. there are specific uses for fwd and acclimation is not one of them, imo.
hope you do NOT plan on feeding the clam either, hope, hope.

No feeding of phytoplankton? Can you explain so I will be able to show my husband why not....thank you very much for your help, it's greatly appreciated! :)

Well we got the clam, and followed all the acclimation procedures taking our time to
that everything was done well. It is now in our tank, but it keeps sucking up quickly. Seems to me it is just reacting to it's new environment (e.g. sounds, fish, shadows caused by the fish, etc.
Should I be worried, or is this normal?

they usually do react much more in a new environment. they also will color up more when they feel more "secure" and react less once they are used to the new spot. mine barely acknowledge any fish any more. my blenny lays right on my big derasa or maxima sometimes very peacefully!

ccolt, np. love clammies.

if you feed your fish, if you clean the algae off the glass on your tank, that provides enough for any size, any type of clam. the only time phyto is needed is if the lights are insufficient and there is not enough waste matter--fish poop--in the tank. feeding can hurt your tank, and feeding wrong will hurt the clam. ask hubby how he would actually go about feeding the clam, how much, how often? if he cannot fully answer and get all three right, look out here is a link to an article by the only person you ever need to get tridac info from , james fatheree, author of the best book, the bible on them, giant clams in the sea and the aquarium, the real guru. he settles the issue once and for all.

wow! $25 for that clam. good deal and price. I've bought from quite a few online vendors, never on ebay. glad it went well for you.

Would like to show some pics, but can not figure out how to? Any advice...I have two great pictures in my album, but not sure how to post them here....thank you in advance...
