My SPS propagation setup, in progress

JBNY - come on man where are the pics :D

I'm at work, so no pics right now :(

Actaully It's been setup for almost three weeks. I'm planning on just putting snails in it for the first time this weekend. So right now, there is more algae than I'd like in that tank.

How is the 7" depth working out? What is the actual depth of your water in the channels?

BTW, my flow will be pretty similar to yours, 900 gph

Actual water depth is 7", the raceway is 10" tall. I have the frags on an eggcrate shelf 3" from the bottom.

It would seem like the frags would need to be rotated at least somewhat. Part of the advantage of them being in a normal tank is that they get flow on all sides. ALthough I guess the flow could be great enough that it wraps around the frag.

Hi Marc, There is no powerhead in the raceway. All flow is from the overflow of the refugium, so there are no pumps what so ever. I'm pushing maybe 800-850 GPH through it.

So what do I see in the back right corner?

Very interesting observation about reducing the hairpin turns to create a faster reversal of flow. Good thinking.

Yeah, that was the first few days when I had the raceway up and running. I was playing with powerheads to see if it increased the current. But it didn't help much other than the one channel it was in. The powerhead was actually off in that picture. I just forgot to take it out for a few days.

Sorry for the confusion.

no problem. I usually don't notice the tiny stuff others do, but in this case I thought..."huh...looks like a Tunze Stream in there" ;)

Sweet setup!!!

And come on now, rios are not as bad as all say. I have had my rio 2100 and 1600 for over 4 years now while the 2100 has only been cleaned once and the 1600 has never been cleaned. Of course I take them out every once in a while to check on them but never have they really needed cleaning. And never have they malfunctioned. AND to top it off, my rio 2100 sucks air every day.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what are those PVC things you are using to joing the two pipes through the acrylic. They look like drain fitings

Are you referring to the bulkheads? That is the only thing joining the PVC pipe to the acrylic tank.

Lunchbox, Here are some pictures of the few frags in the tank. You can also see the piece of acrylic I put in to speed up the flow in the channel.

Oh, I thought you made the wall longer, but you actually blocked it to the end, and just left a overflow of a couple of inches to dump into the next channel.

I tried both, this way seems to work better. I'm going to put another tray in this weekend. On that one, I'll just extend the wall a little and see how it work in comparison.

Are you going to keep the 20K XM over the frag tank?
I just put a Coralvue 20K over mine and think I am going to change it out due to the red spike.

I'll see how the tank does with it. All the frags seems to be doing well. I'll keep it on for at least a few months to get an accurate idea of how the lamp keeps corals.

Hey, I just ran into this Great Thread.. looking for prop tank ideas.. This looks great.... Hows it been working out for you since the last post? Is there a way I can get schimatics to build one of these? Or.. can you or anyone build one for a price of course? I take it your refugium .. doesnt mind the fast 8-900GPH flow?.. or is it only that high in the race way..due to the channels?

Plz reply.
