I think the stand is what caused the break.
If you look at the picture you will see a green line. That is the approximate position of a steel beam that was part of the original rack system. When this larger aquarium was put in a stand was built over this rack. So part of the stands supports were wood and some were metal. I think that when I get the aquarium out and place a level on the bottom it will show that the stand shifted/sagged where it was wood but not where it was metal.
I've already started dismantling the aquarium. I'm knocking out each panel with a ballpen hammer. The back is already out in the above picture.
