My Tank Is Up And Running!!!

tank is looking great glad the sump worked out for ya. i also keep my sg at 1.025 and temp at 80. also if you pm me i may have another deal for you go2lb. if intrested

Well just checked the temp. and it's at 79.6. I think that's pretty good and I don't think I'm going to mess with it.

79.9 after the lights have been on for 12 hours and 79.6 in the morning. Only 0.3 degree fluctuation aint bad.

I also added just a "pinch" of salt to try and bring the salinity up just a smidge more. It was in between 1.024 and 1.025 when I just checked it.

Happy dance!

Good job!

Where are all of your other parameters at?

I guess I never thought to check the rest of them. There is nothing that's live in the tank yet. Just base rock and saltwater. I'm getting my "live" rock from Waverz this weekend so that should get the cycle started.

ohh. I was confused there. You are right. It is acctually kinda fun to watch the cycle. Amonia.....nitrite....nitrate.....perfect water! :)

I just checked the PH it's at 8.0 Is that what it's supposed to be?

I also checked the Phosphates and I do have just a very small amount of phosphates. Just barely any color when i tested it. That's probably due to the fact that I NEED to change the filters in my RO unit. Would changing just the sediment and carbon filters help that?

I checked the calcium as well just because I'm bored and it's at roughly 400, that's pretty good right?

Just got home from Jeremy's house and got my "live" rock in my tank. The CYCLE begins!!! Hopefully not much of one though! :D

And who said you don't get hitchhikers from base rock. I did end up with a very small piece of something on my rock. Not sure what it is. I think it's zenia. I'll post a picture of it tomorrow after I get the rock arranged. I just threw it in for now because it's almost time to party!!!

That's a good idea!!! :D

Now that's a great way to start off the new year! Everyone drive careful tonight.

Well here's a full tank picture with all my rock in the tank. My goal for today is to kind of get it arranged. I just threw it in there last night. I'm also going to making some kind of front for my ghetto canopy. The wife is getting REAL tired of the light in the living room.

Latin definition of patience = Lack of money!!! I'll give anyone a free frag (when I get some) if they can find the coral in my tank! :D Trust me it's in there. Jeremy no cheating!

Just got done checking my water.

Nitrites are about 0.1
Nitrates are probably less than 10 the way it looks.

Should I be running my skimmer while the tank is cycling?

That's a matter of opinion. Some would say no to let you cycle establish well. I've heard as much as a year without the skimmer. Others would say yes to get corals up and going sooner. I say as soon as the tank is cycled and you start adding fish, but you should also read and ask around.

Cool, I thought i read that most people keep them off until they get done with their cycle. That's probably what I'm going to do.

I did a little aquascaping this afternoon. Not sure if I like it or not yet. Any opinions on how to put it?

How come the water is really "cloudy" looking? Is this normal? Everyone elses tanks are just crystal clear.

any time I move something iin the tank it takes a while for everything to clear out again. Also if you turkey baste the detris will be all over until it settles down. My biggest mistakes aquascaping have been putting the LR too darn close to the glass to clean the glass.

What type of lighting did u get from home depot? I would be interested in doing that for my tank that I am setting up. I plan on building a canopy as well for my tank. I noticed that you just have your basic 4' long shop light fixtures, but what did you use for bulbs? Tank is looking great by the way. As far as aquascaping it is up to you. I put a cave in my tank the last time I reaquascaped and my fish love it. Just be sure to leave enough room around the tank to clean the glass.
Good luck
E

Matt, if you start skimming you'll loose all that coraline. Wait for it to settle on your rock and get established. Of course if it doesn't make it you know where to get more. I see a piece of xenia in that first pic! And wow what a pretty purple rock. I didn't even notice it when it was here.
