Here is my Trachophyllia shortly after I got it. I'd probably had it less than a year when I took this picture. A relatively standard Trachophyllia with two main lobes. Maby 1999?

A few years later. Still flat but now with 4 main lobes. Perhaps 2001?

A few years later. Now it is beginning get more dome shaped. Still 4 main lobes, but you can see the start of a 5th. This was in May of 2003.

Here it is today. It is now a full hemisphere with 5 lobes and the start of a 6th.

There it is. Photographic evidence that there is absolutely no difference between a Trachophyllia and a Welsophyllia other than age.

Anyone else have some interesting Trachophyllia growth shots?

Great! Gives an idea of the growth rate of those corals too. A nicely sized Trachyphyllia in the local store may well be a decade or more old. All the more reason to take good care of them so as not to need "replacements."
