My Tunze 9005 skimmer pump siezed?

Wind

Recently my Tunze 9005 skimmer has siezed. It would spin but then shut off completely. Today, I thought it was because something was stuck, so I took it apart for a cleaning. I plugged it back in and I am getting the same thing.

After a few minutes, it would stop completely. No bubbles, no movement whatsoever. At times it'll restart itself. But as of now, I"ve unplugged it.

I am wondering what it could be? Could it be the magnetic shaft inside?

Any ideas. I bought this a few months ago.

Thanks

Open the pump and remove the drive unit. It could be calcium build up or a foreign object. Be sure the impeller magnet is not stuck to the upper bearing. Please see the top thread on alarms and cleaning, while the skimmer pump has no alarm the basic impeller is almost identical.

I have done that last night, cleaned it, soaked it in vinegar. IME, I had thought it would be build up, but I didn't see.

THis has happened last night. It would be okay, then freeze up again. I am really not sure what it is.

Yes, just the pump, include the hydrofamer nozzle though and the impeller assembly.

Hi Roger,

Pump sent. Please let me know what happens now. Any ideas?

You can try letting it run for a bit, it is really freaky.

Thanks.

I recall working on a 9005 pump last week but can I get your name and address so I can look it up?

Roger,

Your PM box was full.

I just wanted to first say thanks again for the help and bonus.

More so, do you know what went wrong so that I can be more cautious or aware? Or was this just a freak of nature thing?

Thanks

It was a bad pump, it was one that was made with a plastic we used for a very short time in early 07 that cooled in such a way it formed layers like plywood and they would seperate and warp and this eventually caused the motor to overheat and fail.

Hello,

Just to update. Got it, it looks great. The 'bonus' made it a lot better. I hope it continues hehe.

My tank misses the skimmer. =)
