96w of led should be plenty for sps depending on tank dimensions. I'm assuming since you usually stick close to the suggested tank sizes it's about a 40g tank. There's a lot more to leds than pure wattage. Color spectrum, optics, and diode placement can all impact how acros will respond. What made you question the lights with your sps? I would think depending on the color mix of diodes they should have plenty of light, although a lot of other issues are more water chemistry based over lighting based.

Basically cause the lights are quite restricting as far as spectrum goes...each light has 2 dif LEDs Whites are the 10,000K and blues are 460nm.

my lights are cheaper fixtures (cause I need 8) but 10x better then the previous ones...I know they are good for LPS and lower, ive been speaking with locals on local forums linking my lights and alllll question their ability to maintain SPS...

The idea for the SPS corals was to have them positioned quite high in the tank being around 400mm-500mm away from the lights themselves to ensure they get the most light but I have serious doubts about the lights spectrum in general.

Well I know walt smith went to ecorays over their fiji facility sps stock tanks and the older models they run were only white and blue leds. For what it's worth though I'm actually in the process of getting cash together to take down my radions and go back to halides over my 100g sps tank. They grow but there are a lot of other issues with coloration and shading. If you are trying to do sps over the peacock tanks could you maybe retro in a t5 or 2 to help make up what the leds fall short on? Shouldn't take much as supplimental lighting to pull it together.

Nah I have made decision no SPS, im not overly saddened by it simply cause I have never kept SPS and it would all be expensive trial and error, I cant afford to keep adding equipment my quarterly electricity bill is just under $2000 lol...

im also working with minimal space above each tank...about 30cm deep, 35cm wide and the tanks length of 90cm, there isn't a lot of space between tanks.

the primary goal allllllll along was to host stomatopods :D ive accomplished that anything else is just gravy =3...

love your system. Could you tell me which one is your favorite and why? Thanks.

That is a very hard question to ask anyone that keeps multiple species :) I'd say it's easier to list what I find less appealing then being able to pick 1 from them all...

Having said this my favorite would be Minos (L.colemani) it's not because he is rare but because of his vastly different personality in comparison to my other spearers...Where Morgoth (L.sulcata) and The Leviathan (L.maculata) will turn tail and flee at the sight of my hand in the tank....Minos will come out of his burrow to "greet" it (and I don't mean kindly).

To me Minos has the best of both...the personality and interaction of a smasher, I see him all the time and not just his eyes but his whole form, he is aggressive and pugnacious like a smasher, frequently leaving the safety of the burrow to pursue/stalk prey.

But if there were to be a more 'common' species I like a lot it would be either G.graphurus/O.scyllarus, both are very interactive and colorful, fearless and powerful, although very different in sizes (G.graphurus max 90mm* and O.scyllarus max 180mm). Both of these species often leave me breathless after recording them on camera, huge personality they seem more a kin to a puppy then some strange sea creature.

There are certain aspects (not something I wasn't aware of prior to purchase) that make certain other individuals more...frustrating ? lol... Take for example the large spearers Morgoth & The Leviathan, when they molt, their gone for a month...not a sense of a creature within the tank, when they feed it's often a 1 hit wonder a.k.a its so fast that its easy to miss either by the naked eye or by trying to capture on camera, it's been nearly 1yr!! Since I last caught the Leviathan on High Speed camera, he is to fast/my reaction to slow...to make matters more frustrating, when they do take a large piece of food/prey and the action is missed...it can be over a week till they take food again.

Shockwave (G.falcatus) a very reclusive individual even though mates of mine have the same species and theirs prove to be quite interactive...he is so reclusive that I removed him from my display system and now have him in a tiny HOB nano hanging off the rear of the displays out of sight.

Megatron (G.chiragra) although this is quite a minor thing I do find it a little frustrating at times :), I want to first say that this individual is utterly ruthless at food time, putting on a great visual display offensive easy to capture for the camera but I think it might be due to this....he NEVER threatens, never displays a threatening pose, never stays still to stare and 'open', he is utterly fearless, not my hand, not the camera, nothing frightens him into a fleeing dart, again it's very minor but the stomatopod display pose is just PERFECT for camera work and the way they stay still and often try to 'open' wider the closer you get, something Megatron refuses to do.

Hope I haven't gone overboard or tried to make myself sound anymore knowledgeable then a TRUE professional in the field of research. :bounce3:

No you havent, thanks for such an informative answer better then I expected lol.

Glad to hear it :)

On a different note altogether I found another heart braking situation of Ricordea price variation between the U.S.A & Aus...

Judging from the description on the site (which shall remain nameless) this Ric pack contains 6 large Ricordeas multi colored and over 4inchs each, very very nice but what makes my brain burst over it is the price...$75USD...INSANITY...if I lived in the U.S. every single tank of mine would already be absolutely choc full of these various colorful mushies :D!

But the reality...is this Ricordea, nice indeed multi colored, a little small (2inchs) but one of the nicest my country has on offer (and that alone is rare enough) however this lone small Ric sold for a staggering $1112USD...heart wrenching.

Just felt like I should share my rant again over a pointless cause :D

I finally bit the bullet today and whilst what I am about to say is a fair few months off, I can certainly guarantee it's going to happen!

Over the past few years I have purchased many cameras, starting simply with my phone, then moving up to cheap $100-$200 camcorders then up to the DSLR cameras with filming capabilities and finally up to where I am now with my current camera, which for all known purposes IS the best PUBLICLY available high speed camera...

However I am tired of low quality and I yearn for something greater...something akin to what we all see on TV everyday whether it's in National Geographic/ Discovery etc.

I'm tired of trying to replicate when for a bit more (well a lot more) money I can duplicate already existing definitions of quality...basically I'm putting money away for a $15,000-$20,000 camera all for YOU! :D

I want to be able to record in High Definition with High Speed (rite now I can only get 1 or the other and the High Speed is very low resolution, edited by me etc.) Not only will I soon be able to make footage on par with what you see on TV but my stress levels will be greatly lowered...

You see these cameras that cost a lot can record in High Speed for long periods similar to what we record now in HD, so rather then predicting the strike of a spearer I can simply set the camera up, hit record, and walk away whilst it records! I'll never miss a strike again and it will be in pure HD HS!

I can't wait :D

Thanks for the comments LuchoTocado & Sun357 :D

Here are is a sight that I am really excited about!

Minos (L.colemani) has dug diagonally from the rear left corner of his compartment to the front of the tank and has proceeded to continue excavating along the front, creating a long window with a great view of him.

More to come :)

What a cutie

I suppose...in a twisted way :lmao:

Personally spearers are more eerie / creepy then smashers, mostly due to personalities although if any of my spearers act out of the ordinary, then it is this one, having a very robust and pugnacious attitude much more resembling that of a smasher then the typical, sit in burrow, never leave burrow, mentality of the other spearers.

Here is a nice Pic of Rocky inspecting a Ric I placed on a plateau in his compartment not 5minutes before this picture was taken, very curious little critter :D.
