My Wavebox is now a "TsunamiBox"

Roger,

Because I can't leave well enough alone and because I just have to tinker, I found out how to almost double the size of the wave on my 180. I wanted to run this by you first to make sure I wasn't voiding the warranty or causing any premature damage to my Tunze system.

My system consists of a Wavebox and 2 Stream 6100's. On the left side of the tank I have the Wave box mounted in the front corner and directly behind it is a Stream. On the right I have the other Stream centered and pointing toward the middle. Currently I have the 2 Streams running on a 6 hour Interval with night mode enabled. The Wavebox runs 24/7 independently of the Streams. It produces a wave just a little over an inch high.

In order to get the "tsunami wave" I plugged the "Slave" cord from the Wavebox controller into the driver of the left side Stream that is next to the Wavebox. The controller is set to the default "sync" mode. My logic was that when the Wavebox emptied itself the associated stream would also turn on and push even more water to the right in unison with the Wavebox. The result was a 2"+ wave! Which really means a 1" rise and fall from the resting water line. The wave action is a lot more chaotic than the rocking motion in the standard mode.

If this configuration is not harmful to the system, I was thinking that this would be a great fix for people with larger tanks that don't think they are getting quite enough wave action. Especially since most Wavebox purchasers already have Streams in their tanks. May be an alternative to purchasing the Wavebox Extension.

Another configuration I was brainstorming was to set the Wavebox controller to the "inverse" mode. (Which alternates 2 Wavebox's on opposite ends of the tank) Connect the Wavebox and Stream on one side of the tank to the "Master" cord via a "Y" adapter to the controller. Then on the other side of the tank connect that Stream to the "Slave" side of the controller. This would have a Wavebox and a Stream on one side and a single Stream on the other alternating in sync with each via the Wavebox controller.

This is an amazing product and if these configs are ok to use, the flexibility of the Tunze system just went through the roof!

I am trying to figure out how to post a movie from my Mac so I can show you guys what I'm talking about. Roger, you're a Mac user aren't you...any pointers?

Enough rambling - anxiously awaiting your input,

Luis

The only problem with this is to my understanding the 6200 that is in the wavebox is specially designed to handle the constant on and off and a regular 6100 may not take the abuse. What do you think Roger?

That was one of my concerns as well, but the driver and transformer share the exact same model numbers as on my 6100's!

Thanks moonpod...it worked!

I uploaded a test movie just before my lights went out for the night. I'll give it another shot tomorrow after my lights come on.

Thanks again for your help,

Luis

It is OK to do this provided the pump has driver 7240.27. I would also be sure the Stream is absolutely clean. The quick off and on gives no time for the alarm to sound so it is hard on the pump if it does seize and this can burn out the driver. Also, keep in mind you are increasing the stress on the tank. You could use the branch adapter as you said.

Moonpod gave you the other answer but yes, you can either edit it with iMovie and post it as a movie or you can post the raw footage through filesharing on your .mac account.

:rollface:i
I honestly believe that we are witnessing a true renaissance in marine aquaria right now thanks to the efforts of innovative companies and individuals.

In my (humble) opinion there is no more innovative or high quality company/organization/individuals as those affiliated with Tunze.

My hat is off to you guys, Roger.

On a side note, anyone notice these two things from Luis,s Tsunami--
1. FANTASTIC Glitter Lines are being produced by the surface wave rolling across the top of the tank.

2. The sound of the water dropping through the overflows in pulses.

I can,t wait to get home from Switzerland and install my wavebox:D

Now this just ticks me off! I just find this thread and my POS PC can't run it. I'm gonna ditch early today just so I can go home and view it. D*mn. I'm guessing when I see it I'll get in line for the Wavebox?

Roger, should I consider that - instead of a 4th Stream? Actually, what if I got rid of the 6100, and ran the 2x 6200's and the Wavebox? Whatcha think?

I knew you'd say that.

Would I be OK with two 6200's and one Wavebox or should I keep the third Stream (6100)?

Does the Wavebox attach with a magnet? If so I should go grab that one from Aq Arts.

Wow! That is awesome, really, really awesome.

Is it really as loud as it sounds though?

Oh yeah - awesome tank Tagareef!

(OT - are you gonna stick with the DE AC 14K's)

Thanks Fliger,

No it's really not that loud...I think the mic on my camera works a little too well. My cat that was jingling in the 2nd movie was 20 feet behind me going up the stairs.

When I first hooked up the Wavebox I was really tuned-in to the splashing noises that it was causing and the rhythmic on/off cycle of the pump. Now I hardly notice. Actually find it kind of meditative! I have noticed that the Wavebox itself has quieted down since I first installed it over a week ago. Roger had mentioned that this would happen due to the "break-in" period of the Stream. My family says it sounds like my reef is "breathing"!

I am not using the "Tsunami Mode" full time right now. Just plan on using it for a few hours a day to give the reef a good flushing!

As for the AC 14K's...I think it's a great bulb. I'm 6mos. into this set and they still look great. I couldn't be happier with the coloration and growth. (The Zeo guys just said "wanna bet?")lol The thing I'm not happy about is availability and price. In that order. With 3 to 6 months left on these bulbs, I have to start thinking about purchasing another set as soon as they become available again.

On that note, I'd keep a close eye on the Phoenix bulbs dude. I'm running both AC's and the Phoenix, and I tell ya, the bulbs physically look the same, they run the same color....the official testing should be out soon, and I'd be surprised if they weren't very, very similar.
