Ok we are getting some nice color and I now have enough light to rival the sun


We would like some ideas on corals and placement. She looks at all of your tanks and grins so I told her I would make a post that she wanted ideas on what to do. I know this is an open ended question but I figured what the heck

I was thinking the same thing. We do have allot of rock tho I just seriously stink at taking pictures. Your pics blew me away. My next purchase is actually a new camera just to take tank pics.

Now is the hard part, bobbbm.

You bought all the cool stuff, and you have to wait and wait and wait for the tank to "fill in".

It's why most of us have several tanks.

I think your tank looks great, just needs some cool sticks growing, and in 12-24 months it will look like what you've always wanted.

I would encourage you to start learning all you can about reef chemistry, and getting into a routine/discipline of testing/water changes/note keeping. Stability is what's needed now, not a lot of tinkering.

I know thats hard, which is why we all end up with garages full of stuff.

Honestly my wife and I were just talking about it. The thing we need most is a Skimmer, I have a Coralife SS 65 and it just isn't enough for the tank but dropping $300 more just isn't in the cards right now. Other then that we should be ok.

I test the water Every Wed night with my new 8 Salifert Test kits (thanks Ray) and keep a log now. I do a 20 Gallon water change every 10 days I use RO/DI but I still have to get to Vinny and pick up my TDS Meter LOL I think he is ready to kill me... Sorry I have allot of respect for those of you who did this on their own. If I had not had you guys I would have killed tons of fish and corals. As of today I have lost an anenome a few minor corals and 2 gobys that jumped ship!

My wife and I came up with a neat idea tonight and I do not know if anyone else does it. We are going to make up batches of food like I do now.

We are going to make one big batch then put them in small ice qube trays like they do with the frozen food. We figure this way we will control ourselves from overfeeding

Bob--another way to make even smaller cubes is to use some egg crate. Lay down a sheet of aluminum foil on a cookie sheet or something else rigid that will fit in your freezer, then put a sheet of eggcrate on top of it. Pour your food slurry in, wrap the foil up and around and put the whole thing into the freezer. Once it is solid, break them out and store them in ziplock bags.

Also, when you make the food slurry make sure there is enough water in the mix--if there isn't, things don't freeze well, and just turn into really cold mush. The ice crystals give it structure (learned that one making baby food )

I have searched, and searched for tiny ice cube trays to no avail. I never even thought about eggcrate. Great idea!
