My wife's first Nano

Hey guys and gals my wife "June" just got her first Tank yesterday and wants to get a progress thread going.

Her plan for this nano is all softies and a few LPS, 3 or 4 fish, and a cleaner shrimp.

Sorry about the crappy pics, my cell phone takes horrible pics. The light was on in my room (my phone just sucks).

This first pic she took is just after she started mixing in the salt. She wants me to never ever mess with her tank. This is her new baby she wants to take care of all by herself.

Here is what she has so far:
24Gal JBJ Nano Cube
PC Lighting
JBJ Stand
5 gallon bucket full of dead sand
Bag of Reef Crystals

What she still needs to get
Heater
2 Power Heads
Dry or Live Rock

I wish my wife had the same passion.

Everytime I try to show her something in my tanks.

"Cool, looks good. When you gonna sell it."

Sorry for today. I came late to the yard sale, I got held up when I tried to leave.

By dead sand, do you mean clean new sand? Or sand that was previously used/live but now in a bucket? Id hate for her to experience algae / phosphate issues over something so simple if its the latter.. looks good though! Thanks again for the UPS, finally hooked it up! :)

Crystal,

It was previously live but now long dead in bucket. Her plan tomorrow is to wash it out really good in small batches, then give herself a sand bed about 1 1/2 thick. She wants to have the tank up and running for 2 months before she puts any fish or corals in.

Im glad the UPS worked out for you. In the next few months my job will be upgrading the UPS system and will be letting me get dibs on the old rack mount UPS units. Ill post what i will have available as soon as i get them.

Picture doesn't work. Looking forward to see her tank progress.
What fish and corals are you guys going to get? I suggest doing really small fish so they have lots of room to swim in.

No idea why that first pic upload did not work. here goes a second try.

As far as fish goes my wife has not hinted as to what she wants in there. for corals she tells me she likes anything colorful.

Ill see if i can take a picture of her messing with the tank and post it.

cool Cesar. Tank number 3!?

I parted ways with my nano cube last year when i lost my job, now its just my sons tank and wife's cube. I asked my wife if i could get one of my own, and was told its not happening. Atleast i get to enjoy and maintain my sons tank "our living roon display tank". My son and i might get lucky and get the ok to upgrade to a 40gal towards the end of november.

Heya man, long time no talk. How are you? And a heater? You must have good air conditioning! I unhooked my heater and plugged in a fan, my ac has been dead now for 6 weeks. Luckily I'm running leds. The hottest my tank got was 82.8 soo had to run out and get a fan. But now I will drop to 78 overnight and hover around 80.5 thruout the day. Good luck with the wifes tank

Of all places my wife put her tank not to far from the ac vent. I just want to make sure there are no temp fluctuations for the little guys she ends up getting.

My wife put in the fuge light today, now its time to get some chaeto.

Here is her latest update, now she has her cool new light thanks to GinaSofia.

Due to her tank overheating she lost all the coral minus the candy canes. She said look at it this way she gets to start with all new frags again.

Oh no! a 70 Watt metal halide overheated a 24 gallon tank?
I had the same fixture over my 12 gallon tank for over a year and a half?
Perhaps something else is malfunctioning?

no, the light did not oeverheat the tank. we went to vegas this past weekend and only left windows open "should of left the ac on" and the house got over 100. when we got home the temp on her tank was at 91 and my sons was 89. she had a nice green tip toadstool, keynya tree, several zoa frags, and a few other corals i forgot the names of, all of which died and melted away, only 2 candy cane frags managed to make it. I did a 10 gallon water change on her tank 2 days ago, and tank seems to be doing better.
My sons tank also had a fair amount of corals die, we figure it is our fault for not leaving the AC on.

I have a 28g JBJ Nano and I run a chiller. You can find used on the forums for not too much. Better than having to run your air conditioner all the time.

Wife just got her last 2 fish today, now comes the coral restocking phase. I picked up a replacement hood last week from a fellow reefer "put the viper as backup for now".

its amazing that some kenya tree made it, i thought it all had melted when her tank overheated.
