My zoa collection (mostly macro's)

Thanks for the comments everyone. I still have a few more that I need to upload to my photobucket account. As for the cost of a decent camera/lens, it would be about $1000 on the low end for used gear. But learning how to use it takes all the time, lol.

Thanks for the comments everyone. The camera is a Rebel XT w/100mm F/2.8 macro lens. I'm always hoping to get some more zoa's, there are just so many different color and such to collect.

I'm looking to purchase a macro lens... Still debating upon which one I want... Those are awesome pics... Do you have any experience with the Sigma 150mm f/2.8??? Thats the other I'm considering besides the Canon 100mm... I wish I could try them both out before buying them... :D

You would think the 150mm would be better since it has more "reach", but it just isn't worth it, IMO. You can still only get 1:1 magnification with the Sigma and the minimum focusing distance is 15". The pictures will have the same magnification but you will just have to stand farther back. I personally press the lens right up to the glass when I don't want to use a tripod, the 15" focusing distance would really limit my shooting options. The Canon 100mm is a tough piece of glass to beat.

Ok, that settles it... I'm going with the Canon 100mm... I find most people use that one anyways... I love the shot of your Yasha BTW... I have one too... But haven't been able to get a nice shot of it yet... Thanks for the input... You've had the best response since I've been debating between the two...

You won't be sorry with the Canon. The extra reach of the 150mm would be useful only if you have a very deep tank, like 30" plus (not likely). Most people use that lens for taking shots of bugs and such, it helps since you don't have to get as close to get 1:1. Be sure to post up some pics once you get the Canon. Now here are two more images.

I'm curious as to what the lighting is also. I have the mean greens and they dont look anywhere close to yours.

.... Damn now I need a $1000.00 lol

Sorry I haven't answered back yet, I haven't checked the thread in a while. My lighting is a Hamilton 14K 250W MH and 2 98W VHO actinics. It's probably more than just the lighting though, the camera/lens and processing the picture make a big difference as well. Thanks for the comments everyone.
