My zoa island

I decided to go w/ barebottom route b/c of more flow and lower nutrient level. My tank was designed for sps and few lps, but I found a perfect location for zoa island. The flow is med but random.

I have all the closed loop returns aimed towards the back glass in a 90 deg. via Oceans Motions to keep the detrius suspended, so it can go down to my overflow. That's the main reason why I went w/ BB.

I target feed some of lps (acan, micro, dendros, goni, etc) 3 times a week. The food is "Pappone" made w/ oysters, clams, shrimp, and mussel. It's mainly for my sps, but my lps love it just as much. You can see the corals just grabbing the food.

Italian Method

However, I believe my water parameter stability is most important for growth. My lights are on 9 am to 3 pm.

temp 76 - 78 deg
salinity 35ppt
alk 9 dkh
ph 8.15 - 8.3
cal 420+
mg 1300+

Looks to me like your zoa/paly island is "contaminated" by that birdsnest and sarcophyton :D .

Beautiful stuff, naka!

Yeah Naka your tank is absoutely stunning. Been following it for a while in the Large Tank Forum. Zoas are addictive, huh... ? :)

it sure will be easy to frag out your zoos with that bare bottom and them growing on the starboard *wink* *wink*

thanks everyone. Zoa's/paly's are definitely addictive, but it's a good thing :) You're right about fraggin these polyps being easy. Invincible came by last weekend, and all I had to do was just scrape some off the bottom.

Lights are 2 x 250 de BLV 10k's AND 2 x 54w UVL SA and 2 x 54w ATI blue plus (my favorite T5 bulbs)
