my Zoa tentacles are growing long?

It seems that my zoanthid tentacles are getting a lot longer after putting a new frag in my tank.

They are growing super fast, but i was wondering what was causing them to grow out there tentacles.

Thanks

What's your salinity at?
I had the same problem and discovered after many headaches that my refractometer was not calibrated properly... though I calibrated it according to the manufacturers directions.
My salinity was low, 1.022 or thereabouts, once raised the skirts became normal again.

YMMV

My salinity is good, and only 1 type of zoa ( reverse Gorilla nips ) have LONG skirts , but that colony is higher up where flow is stronger.. which explains the longer skirt and waving in the current

Its because of flow. High flow will increase skirt length. Check out my rainbow palys with about 1300gph over them. I think it looks cool

they do look so different. so if you move them to a low flow area they get short again and vice versa? will some zoos get longer then others in the same strong flow?

madadi - yes if you move them to less flow the skirts go back to normal. I do think some zoas are affected while others are not. Here is a pic, similar flow over the rainbow palys, ring of fire, and eye of rah but only the rainbows have long skirts

lfduty - it has nothing to do with food.

I have a ton of diffrent zoas. Most should have around the same amout of flow.
My mean greens, and rasberry fields and a few other all have short skirts. It is just my AOG's, BAm-Bams, and thoes grenish yellow ones tha are doing it.
