i came home last night to see my randalli anthias had some sort of wound/scabbing on them, and had stopped eating then this morning they were all dead,

took them out and had a closer look and to me looks like all the scales have "disolved" like leperousy

here is a pic from the iphone - the dark part is where the scales seems to have disolved.

the fish were in QT being treated with hypo and have been in there eating for 4 weeks or so happily, tank mates are a regal angel and a yellow tang. i could see no other vissible signs of disease before this.

is this myobactrium marinum? cant find pics of this on the net actually on fish just on humans.

Thanks
Ryan

If its uronema there can be deep wounds inside the fish with ulcers / ruptures on the outside. Don't know whether thats the case for your fish.

If it is, and you don't treat it, then your remaining fish in quarantine could catch it and die. FWIW, if that does happen make sure you chlorinate (sterilise) the QT and any equipment thats been used in it.

To add to what suta said, this sure looks like classic Uronema to me; Sudden onset, the location and look of the lesions, etc. What clinches it is that you had Anthias in hypo, this combination often results in Uronema infections. As mentioned, these infections often begin inside the fish, so they are difficult to treat. Some people suggest hypo as a treatment for Uronema, but this is dead wrong - it flourishes at low specific gravity, although FW dip will kill it (but not the ones inside the fish!).

To actually confirm Uronema, you would have to look at some of the lesion under a microscope.

I've had a dismal record in treating this. Chloroquine shows some promise, but once the infections really get going, there may be nothing that can be done.

Sterilizing the tank as suggested is extreme, but may need to be done. Some fish do not contract this disease, so if you have fish in that tank not showing symptoms, keep your fingers crossed for them. Uronema is most prevalent in green chromis, anthias and wrasses.

thanks i have a regal and a yellow tang in there which are currently showing no symptoms, i have some antibods coming today for the treatment of both Uronema and septicemia.

Antibacterial drugs won't help with Uronema. Uronema (a protozoan) and bacterial diseases cannot be told apart unless you use a microscope, and there are instances where there are bacterial and Uronema infections at the same time...those are especially bad.

How low did you take your hypo? Like I mentioned, that can be a concern.
