myrionema hydroid stings please help

I foolishly removed several colonies of hydroids from my tank last week and noticed a rash on my hand the next day. Then a day later I started feeling tingling in one hand and the next day both hands. I also get this feeling of blood rushing to my hands and feet with my veins popping out a lot. The rash is now gone but a week later I am still feeling the other symptoms. My doctor is not sure. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do the hydroids produce toxins that can cause this? I have no other symptoms. Please give any advice. I'm hoping it will go away soon. Thanks in advance.

Wow that is a new one for me. You might try posting in Reef Discussions, it gets more traffic than Advance Topics.

Good luck I hope someone chimes in with an answer!!

Hope you feel better soon. It seems the only help would be within hours of the stings to rinse with white vinegar. You did get one hit over in the SPS forum:

I googled hydroids toxin and this was one of the top results.

Sorry you wandered into the lounge with a serious question. We're not usually serious over there.

Some hydrocortisone cream is about all you can do now. See a doctor if you get signs of infection or sick but you should be fine. Reefing war wounds. :)

Well thanks for the concern. Since the rash is gone I may just have to wait it out. I have no signs of infection just the weird feeling in my hands. Not sure if its related to the stings or just a coincidence.

I am not a doctor but I know that some cancer drugs cause neuropathy which is like frostbite tingling and never goes away in some people. It is probably not the case with hydroids or there would be more info. There are treatments for neuropathy but they are only effective on some people. If the tingling continues for much longer, ask your doc to refer you to a specialist. I would bug the doc regularly unless the symptoms are decreasing. Hopefully someone will have a real answer if you keep the thread going. You might also try a divers forum. Good luck.
