Mystery illness?

Hi was wondering if some of you could give your opinion on this mystery, i'm calling illness as its unusual but doesn't seem to affect the clowns in any way, no flicking or signs of distress in any way. They also eat like little pigs.

This is the female who shows it worse. Pics taken with a flash to highlight the problem.

They have had it all the while i've had them, which is roughly 3-4months. They are in a seperate breeding tank and they went through a course of formalin baths, which seemed to reduce the signs. Since then it has come back slightly but not really change.

I'm struggling for a id. I've ruled out whitespot, velvet and brook due to the fish still being here. So was wondering if anyone had seen something similar before.
I plan to qt and treat but want to now what to treat for first. I'm also gonna put this in the clownfish section to see if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

looks most like brook. But as you say, the fish is still alive. Let us know what you find out in the Clown forum.

I would be willing to bet everything i own that its not brooke. brooke shows up a vertical line on their side that develop in to open sores. the parasite basically eats an open hole in the side of the fish. it looks like a very mild case of ick.

Really? My experience with Brooklynella was that it looked like the skin was sloughing off of my Perc. Much like 3rd degree burns on a person. She got to the point of not being able to swim and was basically a goner. This happened almost 3 years ago. I treated her with formalyn she is still alive and well today. I've never heard of brook eating an open hole in the side of a fish.

Oh, and to the OP, that does indeed look a bit like the begining of brook, but if your fish is still alive, then it isn't.

Good Luck

It is crypt, I posted it in the clown forum. If it was Brook your fish would have been dead months ago.

Glad to know. I've never seen a live case of brook, since I gave up clownfish twenty years ago, and every case of ich I've dealt with was less generalized into a coating: must be the slime coat that makes it behave oddly. Well, knowing that, you've got your treatment course, and I've learned about ich on clowns. I hope it goes well for you. They're handsome clowns.
