I hate to knock LFS, because there are several good ones. But there is usually several bad ones for every good one. I know there there is one that is close to me and I always leave red in the face after listening to him give some awful advice that usually contains the words "you need to buy this". I never intervein because I do not beleive in being directly responsible from taking money out of their pockets (after all, that bad advice may be feeding a family that isnt directly responsible for the bad advice being given), but it is still very aggravating.

I actually left a store mad last weekend after hearing a couple be told by an employee "SW is easier than FW"......WOW!

Right now I am trying to think of ANY fish with those colorations. Angels/ or dwarf, tangs, ...... maybe a type of wrasse?

Maybe its some crazy hybrid or a rare unknown species.

could it possibly be a tang transitioning from juvi to adult colors? cant think of any with a mixture of those colors, though.

i told the lfs all about my water chemistry and my tank setup and he recomended it and its not for my 30 gallon i just cant remember the name he said it was thats all. unfortunutley i cant get a pic but thanks anyway guys ill just ask the lfs

jakeg, you are mysterious. Dont run away. Tell us about the setup, and more about this fish. You obviously want to learn if you asked the question here. Do not be discouraged by the people who ridiculed, there are lots of people here who enjoy helping. Most of the "know it alls" that ridicule people made mistakes when they started, they just choose not to remember them when talking to a newb (if you are a newb, Ill admit I am just making an assumption) Give us a chance. If not, good luck.

Sounds like to me that it wasn't a hippo tang, but a coral beauty angel. Fits the description.

Your setting yourself up for a BIG letdown looking for help from the LFS. They want to sell you what they have. They dont care about the fish.

NO tang is ok for a 30g tank...NONE.

He said earlier in the thread that the fish is not for his 30g.

If it turns out to be a fish that is not a tang, I definately would not take this LFS advice, LOL
