No, I ordered from another local reputable LFS in the Vancouver area, who got them from their distributor, who I assume is the same for all local dealers.

That's very interesting, I believe all LFS will get their BP from one source in Canada, and if one is tainted I bet the rest are the same way. I will definitely check my BP when I get it. Thanks for the info.

Problems with NP Reducing BioPellets
Dear Customers,

We got some news from the users who are using our NP Reducing BioPellets. The problem is that the skimmer stops skimming when people add the NP Reducing BioPellets. We checked our control batch, which we keep from each incomming shipment, at our warehouse and found a odd shaped BioPellet in a 300KG bulk batch.

These odd shaped pellets (see picture) is a NP Reducing BioPellet but it came from a other production machine at our manufacturer. They do work, but it takes longer before they start working. Next to that they contain more lipids then normaly. This is why the skimmer stops functioning. Depending on the used volume of the BioPellets most of the skimmers start working again in 2-3 days. In some cases it takes (much) longer. These odd shaped pellets are not harmfull for your animals.

On the left side you see the normal shaped NP Reducing BioPellets. On the right side you see the odd shaped NP Reducing BioPellets.

Picture of the 2 shapes of NP Reducing BioPellets in the package:

What to do:

If your skimmer stops working when you have added the NP Reducing BioPellets and you have 2 shapes of NP Reducing BioPellets, contact the store where you bought the NP Reducing BioPellets for more information to solve this problem. What you can do in the mean time: 1.) Take out the NP Reducing BioPellets till you contacted the store and helped you solve the problem or 2.) Sort out the 2 shapes of BioPellets and put only with oval shaped pellets back in to the system, not the square ones. Do contact the store where you bought the NP Reducing BioPellets.

We apologies for all the trouble. We are doing our best to make all customer happy again with our NP Reducing BioPellets.

We want to point out that there are no fake BioPellets on the market as is suggested by some. All our newly shipped NP Reducing BioPellets are thermo sealed.

Sincerely yours,

Dennis van Houten

Help pellets won't tumble

Help pellets won't tumble

I am having trouble keeping the NP Bio-pellets tumbling even after purchasing a vertex reactor and a mag 8 pump, so now I don't know if they are working or not?

Did you just start them? How much are you using? It took a good 48hrs before mine would tumble and not clump up. Close the gate valve, then shake or vibrate the pellets so they break apart from one another. Sounds like you have PLENTY of flow. Good luck.

I am into my 3rd month of using 1500ml of the pellets and on my second reactor and third pump and still no tumbling of the pellets?

Hi,

My tank is already pretty low Nutrients but wanting the try the pellets instead of manual vodka. how much should i start with for a 150G DT ( 190G total water volume)?

Do i just need to top up the desolved pellets or completly replace then after a certain amount of time? roughly have often to they need topping up, and how much?

JP, I am so pleased to see your post to clarify the confusion. Directives have already been sent out to distributors and LFSs in affected regions on how to handle issues and problems with the problem batch and replacement program is underway. I want to commend you and the exporter for acting responsibly. I know this is a costly undertaking but I also know many reefers like me will continue to do business with a reputable and responsible company like yours. Thanks again.

JP, is it my understanding from your post that this is just a "problem batch" as one poster put it or is this a newer product that your are manufacturing? If a new product, what is the advantage of increasing lipids? Will the consumer have the option of purchasing both the newer square pellets and the older round pellets in separate containers or will you be manufacturing only the newer pellets? I realize that you may not want to discuss these issues at this time, but I was still hoping that you might be able to answer these questions.

Where do you get the mesh mod material from?

Do you still run Carbon or Rowaphos?

A good mesh to use is the plastic sheets of mesh designed for use with crocheting. You can get them at Micheals or any other craft store. The sheets are very cheap, <$2, and easy to cut.

My phosphate was pretty high before I started BP so I have been running Rowaphos also. Now that my phosphate is zero (per my $40 Hanna Colorimeter) and my GHA are mostly gone. I will be taking the Rowaphos offline at the end of this month and just run my BP.

Keep us informed about the finding when taking phosbanners out of service ,
i did like 6 month's ago (gfo) , and had no issues yet...

If the newer pellets crash folks skimmers then there is no real benefit, as you're taking export out of the equation.

I am into my 3rd month of using 1500ml of the pellets and on my second reactor and third pump and still no tumbling of the pellets?

Is it possible that 1500ml is just too much for the reactor? From my understanding they should be tumbling to be working properly. I would turn off the pump, take off the top of the reactor and get a long stick of some sort to stir them up good - then close it up and turn your pump back on.

When you do this, do the pellets get pushed up as a whole? Or just sit there as if nothing has happened? If it's the latter, my guess is that you'll need a stronger pump :( Every reactor acts differently to different types of flow.. But the general consensus seems to be that around 300gph/500ml works pretty well. I think you said you're pushing a 800gph pump through 1500ml, which actually may be a little underkill - still strange you aren't getting any tumbling at all though..

Also, how much room is there between the top of the reactor and the top of the pellets?

Anybody getting a brown bacterial type slime/snot after starting these? I am 4 weeks in and its not getting any better. PO4 .02 on the real deal hanna not the pocket rocket lol..
