anybody ever tried breeding a black ocellaris with a naked ocellaris to try and get a naked black ocellaris? Basicaly a completely black ocellaris clown. This is somthing I would like to try in the future.

"anybody ever tried breeding a black ocellaris with a naked ocellaris to try and get a naked black ocellaris?"

You would likely get a brown ocellaris from that mix. Maybe the odd naked brown... I think it would take several generations to set the bloodline.

"I believe nakeds are percs not ocellaris."

Then you would be wrong :) They are Ocellaris.

you are correct, after searching, they are indeed ocellaris.
that would be a cool experiment...

Working on it.

yeah? how far along are you?

Working on it...Is all I can say.Realizing that the fish you are talking about is a one in a million fish. And to do it right you need about 20 at least. It will be a wile. The Onyx was Bill Addison's life work.It took 20 years and over 25 generations. These things take time and patients.So......Patients Danial son.

give me a break. why bring it up if all you are going to say is "i'm working on it"

Because......I believe............. RyanSweatt2004 asked. There are probably 15 breeders Working on it today.Who ever does it....well there name will live on far past there lives. We as a group of breeders don't talk much about specialty fish...there is too much at stake. If one says anything it may be the key to someone else breakthrough. Each one of us is trying to do the impossible. We want to be first. We are a prideful bunch.I just read about a guy in a foreign land who worked for Apple. He lost a betta test unit for the Iphone3.He committed suicide.Just like big company's.We breeders have our secrets. That's just the way it is.So I did not mean to offend you.I just don't talk about things that take years to accomplish,,,so an internet breeder can do them in minutes.I hope this answers your question a little better.SUS you are a Civil engineer,Please be more "Civil" when asking questions...You will get better responses.

You'll have to go to probably F4 on the offspring. Do not inbreed. Selectively breeding these fish is key. Cooperation between breeders (selling off broodstock you cannot hold) is key.

this is one reason why marine fish breeding has made such small progress

I agree but its hard to ask someone to overcome their own desire for success for the good of the hobby.

+1 rkelman
