Naked clownfish?

I was visiting Inland Aquatics, a retail store and coral propagation facility in Terra Haute, IN over the weekend. For sale, they had a pair of 'naked' ocellaris for about $100. These fish were bright orange, with no stripes at all, and black tipped fins. The effect was very striking and it was hard to resist purchasing them.

Given the prices of everything else in the store, I was suprised they weren't priced much higher. I have never heard of, or seen clowns that looked like that before. Has anyone else?

No pics, sorry. And I don't really want to search for "naked clown" on google while I am at work.

google images would be better... since you are at work and all. :D

Since you can't access the search, here are some of the results I got when searching...

If I were a premium member, I might consider that.

I'm sorry. the link does not work? That is a search done on RC for the last three months with all "Naked Clown" hits. I would have thought it would just display the results for you.

traveller7 Whad'up with dat???

No, when you link to the results of a search, everytime you go to that link it performs the search. So if you aren't a premium member, it will most likely be "busy- please try again or buy a premium membership".

oama, you need to go spend some time on nano-reef and THEN you will know about repeating yourself. Really though, you can hardly blame people on RC when it is so difficult to search. There is no excuse on nano-reef.

Anyway, back to discussing naked clowns... I always thought clowns were scare enough. White faces, red noses, huge shoes, I imagine naked ones are even more frightening!

2 questions:

1) Are they white everywhere or just their face?
2) Do they still wear the big shoes?

they are actually quite common. i see them at my lfs every month or so. they are the result of 2 misbarred clowns that have been bred together. I personally wouldnt pay over 35 dollars for one. 100 for a mated pair wouldnt be unreasonable, but if was just two fish thrown together you would be better off trying to form your own pair.
