Quit looking at me like that, have you never seen a naked conch???

Just noticed this this morning, I have 2 of these conchs in my 90 and they were both introduced to the tank together about 2 years ago.

Does anyone know what might cause this? It seems tone moving around fine at the moment...

Dont to sure what make that happen but I dont think it is good. I know that snails and what not will make a protective coating of slime if their is a hole in the shell to protect them. Are your parameters ok ?
Is it only one of them. Is there anything in the tank that would snack on them like a puffer fish or another fish or invert that likes to eat them ?

There are 2 of these in my SPS dominate 90 g and this is the only one affected. Id it possible that a rock or something fell on him? By the looks of the edges, it does not look like something that happened last night.

Thanks!

I would think , if a rock did that damage , it would kill him or if not that , pin him down. Maybe not though and thats a good thought. I would just keep an eye on him and since you are keeping sps your parameters are prob good, he might just rebuild that part. Could you or do you have any empty ones he might take as a new home. I dont know if they do that but its a thought.

I will keep an eye on him, but I don't get to see them often since they mostly come out at night. It just happened that I got up early on sunday morning to do a water change and they were both still out. Thanks for the help.

I seriously dou t it, but is not totally out of the question. I think that if a mangos had went through this much trouble, it would have eaten the fleshy conch inside the shell.

mantis are swimmer too and would never let something like that go.

it almost looks like its eroded over time. i was gonna say lack of cal but its in an sps tank. ime sps show signs way before other animals do
