Funny story. So I buy this sun coral, get it home, walk away for an hour or so. I come back and the whole thing moves about 1/2 an inch. So i look closer and the rock that the coral is on opens up! This coral is growing on a clam! How cool. Now what kind of clam is it?

Not sure what the exact name of the bivalve is but I have had one like that for over 3 1/2 years and it's still doing great.

I've had it just chilling in the back of the aquarium with no light for 3 1/2 years. I've never fed my tank anything other than flake or frozen foods that the fish eat.

It is hard to tell by the picture waht type of clam it is, but you might consider moving the coral off of it, that way you can let it open completely. sine the sun coral isnt a light feeder, it doesnt need to be placed there the clam should-Guru

That is pretty much as far as the clam will open. It's not a clam such as a T. Maxima or T. Squamosa that have great mantle extension.

Also, the coral isn't much weight, the tissues in the clam are very easily capable of 'lifting' the coral that has grown on top of it with very little energy.

Neither the clam or the sun coral are light feeders, that is why the suncoral 'grew' on top of the clam.
