I guys, I need your help. I will add pics tomorrow. I t hink i have an alge problem. This tank has been setup for almost a month now. My Rocks cured in a week, since I brought it precurred.

I have a 24 gallon DLX nano cube. I have 7 fish in there, 4 Damsels, 2 Clown Fish, and a fish that eats the sand and it comes out of his gills (all of the fish are 1 inch, I'll be getting a bigger tank in a few months, didn't know how addictting this hobbie is.) . I have 2 red crabs, 2 blue crabs, on emerald crab, and a purple lobster.

My Amonia is 0, Nitrite 0, and I recently check Nitrate was 10ppm. I am using the stock lights it came with.

I notice that few days ago that there were some green stuff on the glass of the side, I was excited b/c I thought that my tank was getting more mature. So I cleaned it off, then the next day I noticed that it was even more then the day before, and the next day after that, almost 40% of my tank was covered with green alage and brown stuff on the sand.

Also the rocks also were covered with the brown stuff. Last night I cleaned the alage off of the sides of the glass, and put a timmer on the aquarium. I've only set it to turn on for 5 hours in the day, since I don't have corals or anything. I do however, feed more then necessary, Should I put in my protein skimmer? there is no direct sunlight. What else can I do.. I did a water change about 2 and 1/2 gallon.

Please send me info.. thanks..

My back chamber is stock, The first chamber has a black sponge, the second chamber has a sponge, bacteria balls, rings in a bag?, and the last has a 300GPH pump. If I were to get a 600GPH would that be better? or should I get a power head like the Hyrdro flow?

Thanks for your help, (and yes, i will be getting ride of the damsels in a few months)

First your tank is still maturing.

The brown algae is diatoms, totally normal and part of the new tank syndrome.

YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE 7 FISH IN THERE!!!!!

Get rid of the 4 Damsels, I don't care if you have to give them back to the pet store. They will eventually get to big anyway and become aggressive.

Then you will have the 2 clowns and the goby which is fine but you need to up the water change to 5 gallons once a week until you get past this.

Overfeeding + To many fish = Phosphates which leads to algae growth.

Do what I say or you will be looking at a tank crash and killing all of your livestock........

Tell us how your back chambers are setup and I can help you more.

Too much, too soon. You have to add bioload (fishes) slowly to allow the bacteria in the sand and rocks to balance out the crap (literally) it has to dispose of. 1 month is way too soon to be adding more than 1 fish. Slow is the way to go in this hobby.
