Thinking of setting up a sump underneath my 30g.... so I'm wondering how others have made sumps for a nano size. I was thinking a 10gallon sump.

Please post pics and any other info you may have.

Thanks,
Matt

hey man, that's what im in the process of doing on my upgrade from a 12dx to a 20L.

i dont think you can go wrong with a 10gallong sump for a nano. adds enough water voulme to make up for the difference in rock displacement.

i went with a standard 4 baffle setup up: one hanging upside down (in), then one sitting right side up, another right side up (to form the dsb) and another to divide the return area.

very smooth flow. ill get some pics up pretty soon to show you how it works.

Standard 30g tank, been running for about 2 years now. But I'm tired of looking at all the crap hanging on the back. So my plan is to get another 30g, drill it for overflows and returns, then switch out the tanks.

Skimmer: Coralife Super Skimmer 65

Powerheads: 2 Zoo Med Powersweeps

Other Flow: Spraybar return from phosban reactor (404gph)

I see ... ehhh 2 yrs. and you're still having phosphate problems? You're using RO water right?! I would disable it and check for phosphates after a couple weeks and a month again to see if you're phosphates even present a problem.

Otherwise what kind of 30G ... glass or acrylic? Are you planning a strictly sump setup or sump/refugium? 10 Gal. is fine if you're only going with sump for a skimmer and a bit of chaeto and return pump ;)

Any chance we can get you to post a pic of your setup?!

Ah the phosban reactor is actually a Carbon reactor.

As for the size sump, It's pretty much the biggest I can fit in the stand. 10 gallon fits for sure, 15 gallon might. Or I toyed with the idea of building a sump since I have some acrylic sheets laying around.

Tank is glass.

I would like to do a sump/fuge. I'm just not sure how to go about the setup.

Very nice! I like the clam ...

The best is to start looking at different models ... here's a link to Melev's Reef and all the sump designs ... this will get you thinking for sure ;) if you have questions for your application I can help you out to make sure plumbing, flow, and water capacity is the way it should be for your tank. PM me if you need more help ... or I might check in from time to time :smokin:
