Nano tank build at our school

SO, little update:

The tank's debut today was apparently a huge success from the amount of enthusiasm, despite the lack of a light, coral, or fish. The rock I had grabbed out of my tank had a few hitchhikers, two small recordia and a hermit crab promptly named Steinbeck. It's amazing how one little hermit crab attracted so much attention. Recordia disappeared but I'm sure they will show up later.

Found an awesome clamp-on architect light that tightens to make sure it stays in place. Setting that up along with the ATO tomorrow morning. Pictures to come!

Cant wait until we get some softies in there, and then it really comes to life. People will realize its not just fish, although I am really excited about the idea of a small school of Bangiis. I was thinking 3~ or so, and maybe a Green Clown Goby. (Note the lack of "Nemo Fish")

Just an FYI 3 Bengi Cards might be way to many. Look into Clown Gobies, Fire Fish,
Scooter Blenny, Yashahari Goby things like that.

We were thinking small, one inchish. No way that we would put large ones in there. Backup plan if that doesn't work was something along the lines of a tail spot blenny.

We'll have to wait on the corals for a few weeks, want to make sure we get everything just right. We can of course accept donations early and give them a quarenteen in our own tanks though:bounce1:

So we've now got the par38 over it and the ATO set up.

The students are flowing in, even though there's really nothing to see yet.. I can't wait to blow them away once we get some corals and fish in.

Hello all! Just wanted to give an update on our little reef.
We currently have a few simple paly frags and a small, small clump of GSP

the tank has attracted an OUTSTANDING amount of attention. The librarian says that it's sometimes what students come to the library for. We placed a journal next to the tank for all the questions the librarian can't answer.

We are hoping to place a small skunk shrimp and a green clown goby within the week. (Much to the students excitement)

From personal experience, if you put cleaners in first, they will be more active.

I have some hardy sps pieces i can donate. My daughter has been growing frags of them in her bio cube under stock PCs. Let me know if your interested.

We've been slowly adding our cleanup crew, so far just a few hermits. We're still debating snails, don't want students freaking out if a crab kills one. Maybe a few of the dwarf cirths?

We will both be at the party and any and all frags are accepted (except Xenia, I've got enough of that!). We are shooting for softies and Lps but any frags are greatly appreciated.

One of the things that we forgot to mention. For the most part we have been hauling water to the school. Now the science lab has a carbon/sand filter and for the first reservoir fill up we just used that in a hurry. Seeing as we are aiming mostly for softies but are entertaining the thought of sps, should we start bringing DI water for top offs?

As it turns out, the librarian's husband works in a marine biology associated laboratory at UC Davis. Hopefully this will bring cool hook-ups :thumbsup:

I graduated from UC Davis majoring in genetics and psychology. With that I had a few laboratory classes interacting with marine animals. As I recall, they have mostly cold water species of horseshoe crabs , etc. plywood with water proofing, sand and chiller. UC Davis recently purchased 2 pallets of instant ocean salt from aquarium depot. If there is ever a hook up you would be better off going to ad. I'll bring frags on Friday.

At the moment, we are trying to decide between a tailspot blenny and a green or yellow clown goby, or a solo six line wrasse..
any comments, suggestions, concerns, or advice?

Duh! Glad that we're on RC. Going to check with Jojos tomorrow about the availability of a green clown goby.
