i have a cube tank - 28" front to back, 24" wide and 24" wide - barebottom predominantly sps - i currently have 3 6055, one 6025 and one vortech 20 ... i am considering adding a nano wavebox in the place of the vortech, and 6025 ... keeping the 3 6055's for directional flow - suggestions??

You should have plenty of flow with 3 x 6055 and the nano wavebox. You can have the wavebox mounted in the back facing the front, it still generate side to side wave motion.

how much of a concern is the stress it puts on the tank ... i have rimless cube, and i have always wondered about that. thanks.

It does stress the tank but the wave on such a small tank will be quite short, maybe 1/2" at most. If the tank is well made and on a level surface it shouldn't be a major concern.

I probably wouldn't do it if it was my tank, I would think 3 6055's should be quite sufficient running at the full 24V. The wave will be short and fast and not very natural looking. Even with the Nano Wavebox, the practical limit for my own use would be a 30" tank.
