the nanostreams have a wide flow so it won't be too much for your tank at all. you can even add a second one if you want.

I ran the tunze one on my old 55 hex, it worked great after I figured out to keep the sensor away from air bubbles from the drain. It will mess with the sensor and trigger the alarm.

Sump Update!

Good news, the sump did not leak. Everything worked perfectly with the baffles so that was a good thing. We got the skimmer installed and the return going as well. Finally movement in the tank!

One problem I am having though is for the return I did not add a ball valve or bend the line in any way. It's basically a straight shot down with a 90 degree bend at the end. Needless to say it's causing quite a bit of bubbling that needs to be fixed.

I didn't glue anything down yet, this was just a test to see how it did. Any suggestions on the best way to fix the bubbling and rapid current? Ball valve to reduce flow? Or should I bend the drain line a little to help slow the decent?

I'm also going to try and install a GFCI instead of the Shock Buster that I have now. It trips too often.

So does the setup seem like it's going to be fairly quiet??

you can use a filter sock, it will get rid of most of your microbubbles. and since your tank is new it will create more microbubbles too, everything will settle down once your tank matures a bit.

when you replace your sump, you will be getting a bigger one i'm assuming, it will be able to handel more flow and will be able to dissipate more bubble before they reach your display.

Mmmm most sumps I have seen have the over-under-over baffle on the skimmer side. This gives the bubbles more time to coalesce and dissipate. Is there a reason you did it backwards?

Hmm sand, filling, sump, skimmer, and yet another step closer to finish. Sweet! Now lets see that skimmer get nasty Did you mesh mod the pump?

It's louder then the best sump I've had, and quiter then the worse sump I've had... so to answer your question... it's fairly noisy atm. What's making it noisy is the amount of large bubbles flowing out of the drain into the side of the tank and bubbling like a big stew.. then flowing over the fuge section at times.. almost like it's pulsating every 30 seconds. It's kind of odd. I am thinking I am going to change the return a bit to cut down on that. Other then that, works great so far.

Thanks! So far I think most of the problem is the large concentration of bubbles at the end of the drain. I'm going to play around with it.

I don't think it's backwards, it's just another design idea. The water flows through the fuge helping to stir it a bit then calms down into the bubble trap and into the return.

I'm going to make a nice acrylic one with the return in the middle and make everything nicer and bigger. For now, I had this sump so I used it to get the tank up and running.

you can risk distroying needlewheel if you make a mistake but it seems pretty straight forward. or you can get the new needlewheel impellar for the sedra 5000 from euroreef, it increase your efficiency by 25%.
